You know, I do have to remind myself of this more often! Before starting this first playthrough, I didn't realize how much of Cyberpunk's story followed an established person with a story rather than being a "make your own life" kinda game. Guess I kind of assumed.

Yep, hitting that wall right now with Cyberpunk sadly 😓 MOST of the role-playing is so great in these games, untilllll it comes to the bigger decisions, that either feel like a crap shoot in regards to "consequences" or will just still punish the player for the more empathetic option regardless.

Same! It's especially annoying when they often DO have nice, nuanced options available when just talking to people (for like romance quests) but for anything consequential it's a crapshoot. I get that it's mostly development limitations, but it still bums me out a bit.

Maybe I'm just not in the mood for nihilism these days, but it just annoys me that even in such Power Fantasy games, they neglect to write the option for good outcomes because they're edgy and have to remind the player that everything sucks. Which is fine every so often, but it's fairly constant.

CD Project Red makes great games but I get really annoyed at their writing. So many of their quests feature scenarios that have an obvious middle ground, but that's simply not an option because they have to stick to their "no matter what you choose, there's ridiculous consequences" nihilism.
