Since I started using Evies in the last 3 years, Minneapolis has lost all new clothing stores (Target doesn't exist/count/dead to me) and there is no place to even buy nail in the neighborhood. It's like not only do they hate poor people but they also don't want our money being spent in the suburbs.

This removal of Evie is a direct result of racism and misogyny. America and Minnesotans and many Minneapolis neighbors chose this non-electric car-share world deliberately. A lot of us need to write a "thanks, mom and dad" letter spelling it out for them.

I also hate this so much. It is likely going to force me to buy my first car since 2003. I don't know how I am going to afford a car but I can't physically afford living without anymore and will not turn to Lyft/uber as alternative.

I’m so upset about this. I sold my car a few years ago and knowing I could use Evie when I needed to was a major factor in me feeling comfortable doing so. Disappointed in the cities for not investing in this and instead focusing on the completely unnecessary Waymo.

i used Evie quite a bit in the past, still even a member. having it go away is devastating for folks who wanna be car free or car light. (knowing how many spare vehicles they have parked in the lower levels of the Vinland parking ramp, I kinda wonder how many they're gonna be selling)

@hourcar.bsky.social having to end service is such a loss! I’ve used HOURCARs to go to medical appointments, drive to work events, get furniture from the ReStore, volunteer at events in the burbs, & take trips to see family in WI. It made being car-free easy. I’m sorry we couldn’t keep you, HOURCAR.

And I'm going to state unequivocally that the @metcouncilmn.bsky.social should provide annual operating funds to @hourcar.bsky.social, and it should be far in excess of a million dollars. This was true in 2002 when we first asked them for support and it's more true today after proof of concept.

Sorry-not-sorry to those who are hell bent on romanticizing commuting and shopping with bikes and transit. Too many of those ppl also own a car. It isn't sustainable for most ppl after decades -or it is by default bc inability to afford other options and it adds to the exhaustion of day-to-day life.

The Evie cars have been a life-saver. I already get home from work exhausted. Bussing and biking, even in good weather, is physically exhausting plus I hit my limit on harassment awhile back.
