Vancouver: Single Stair Code + "Villages" Plan Critics will be critics, but the truth is we've never seen single stair urbanism in action in Canada (or most of North America). It's a new thing.
Single stair small lot apartment building, 4 storeys with retail at grade.
Adjacent buildings include single stair flats, multiplexes and single family homes. 3D model and concept by Lanefab / Oori Architecture. Rendered by Gemini.

This has been my go to resource for 5e rules and character options, it's been a life saver for looking up something quickly I'd suggest picking up the most recent starter set: heroes of the borderlands. It is probably the best way to get started, and includes pre-generated characters

@ohtheurbanity.bsky.social my wife and I are planning on visiting Montreal at the end of July, and plan on staying in Plateau-Mont-Royale. Any suggestions for must do activities/places to visit in the area? Bonus for bike friendly options! I've visited 3-4 times, but haven't been since 2018

The only thing “carbon capture” has ever been successful at, is acting as a corporate and political distraction from, and an excuse for avoiding, REAL climate action.

Halifax is one of those places, we still have old street car rails that are covered in asphalt and a dense downtown core. Unfortunately we lost a lot of the pre 1900s construction in the Halifax Explosion

Halifax has been positive in job growth since March 2025, likely because of increased defense and military spending

Spring has sprung in Minneapolis and bikes are everywhere. 😍
5 bikes of various types (regular, ebike, cargo bike) are parked outside a restaurant, NA shop and hair salon. People are sitting on the patio at the restaurant.

I am super grateful for a local bike store that loans me a cargo bike so we can keep up our daily kid-carrying while our bike is in the shop, but there’s nothing like getting your own bike back. It’s very reassuring that we really have chosen the right bike for our family’s needs!

I'm continually impressed at how motornormativity causes people to create a revisionist history of American cities where they sprouted up fully formed and filled with cars and parking spots. Motornormativity also causes these people to ignore the many places that have reversed car dependency.

Switzerland uses 3 minutes for "on time" performance tracking, but 5 minutes makes sense. Unfortunately there is little prioritizing of transfer coordination, so that 5 minute "on time" window can still lead you to miss the only bus for the next hour 😭

Our concern with renting a semi-detatched home is that the owner could sell the house at any point and then you're out on the street. We already live in the North End, so moving further out of the city is a deal breaker for us. My wife can walk to work at the hospital

With gerrymandering concerns rising in Alberta, this animation shows how proportional representation solves the problem. Under our current system, lines dictate results. With a proportional system, voters get the representation they chose, regardless of how the map is drawn.

There's a difference between feeling unsafe and uncomfortable. MLAs are not unsafe in Province House. Closing down the second floor to the public is a cowardly move. They did it because some of the MLAs feel uncomfortable with the cuts, and won't admit it.

Andor is a political thriller that masquerades as a Star Wars show. It is prescient about the current day, because it is steeped in the historical relevance of yesterday. In a world where information can spread like wildfire; ideas are contagious and uncontrollable. The truth will come out.

I finally watched Andor S2 recently and I can't help but think about this quote from the show "The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that."

I’m finding it painful to watch CBC platform mostly conservatives to gush praise at former Prime Minister Stephen Harper (they’re releasing his archival collection) with almost zero commentary about the awful things he did while in power & around the world since. The selective amnesia is nauseating.
