Splunk itself is super extensible and allows for a lot of configuration (it’s almost too configurable) but the defaults took some getting used to. SOC is almost the exact opposite. My main gripe is we had some custom team level scheduling in PD that we really couldn’t get setup the same way in SOC.

Local FS backed up by raid for the short term operations and just use S3 or azure blob storage? I guess I don’t get what you’re looking for? Just use s3 (or backblaze if you want an s3 compatible api for cheaper)

I can’t imagine there are really any notifier services that are truly great but I’d much rather go back to pagerduty at my work than continue to use Splunk on call. The pagerduty/data dog stack was so much more intuitive for me than Splunk.

Isn’t the entire purpose of starlink to drive development and subsidize the costs of starship so that they can get more economies of scale? I’m not sure if it’s going to work but it seems like (the intention is that) starship would massively decrease cost per kg launched.

Fwiw my VPS with them (in the BHS dc) just came back up. They sent out a notice that they’d be applying an emergency maintenance patch and the overall window would be 3 hours. I was only down for an hour though.

Anecdote but I have had the Roborock s7 for several years now and haven’t had an issue with the pads. On mine they’re washable and I just bought a pack of 10 when I got it and swap it out every week or so.

As someone who grew up in the American SW I can’t understand these people. There are places that are literally unlivable without AC today, not in 20-50 years. Why oppose creature comforts even if you live somewhere that’s really nice most of the year? Just don’t use it when you don’t need it.
