Good to hear The Skinny has been saved, but some abysmal news that the owners of St Margaret's House has severed notice to everyone there. Huge blow to the increasingly thin fabric of artist support in Edinburgh.

Now what we can do, because again this is a grand national tradition, is rudely nickname people in a way that is *obviously a nickname*, and one that we, as culture, apply pretty universally to people we do and don’t like. it’s fair game because it’s equal. bsky.app/profile/mark...

I originally planted this in the wrong part of the garden and had to transfer it to a pot and place it in a sunnier part of the garden because I forget how short Scottish summers are but the dahlia finally bloomed, and honestly this colour is so lush! 🧡 🌱
A close up of an orange dahlia flower head in full bloom, looks a little like a sunflower but has dark orange petals near the centre which fades to a lighter colour towards the tip.A tall dahlia plant in a pot with one orange flower in bloom, it is surrounded by other plants in pots catching the last of the autumnal rays before the sun disappears around the other side of the house, a patch of blue sky with wispy clouds peeks through a gap between some trees in the background.

Dear Edinburgh folk, Onion Press is looking for submissions for a community art project about the yellow towers we're all obsessed about! yellowtowers.cargo.site/about
Submissions

Yellow Towers is now taking responses from the community to showcase on this website. We’re looking for artworks in any medium that respond to the wind turbine jacket foundations in the Port of Leith.

We are looking for paintings, drawings, writing, sculpture, textiles, audio-visual work, whatever you like! You don’t have to consider yourself an artist to participate. We’d love to hear your thoughts about the towers – will you feel sad when they go? Maybe you can’t wait for them to be gone? You can write to us, send audio recordings, drawings, anything. Let us know how you would like to be credited, or if you would like to remain anonymous!

We are also working towards a physical exhibition of this collection. We hope this exhibition will happen in January 2027 – just in time to say goodbye before the jackets move on to their final location.

Submit your thoughts or artworks using this form.

Yesterday went to Dovecot to see the Costume Couture: 60 years of Cosprop exhibit which was exquisite but also popped up to the balcony to view the Elizabeth Blackadder and the angy orange cat at the bottom is sending me! Also this is a tapestry and not a painting! Gobsmackingly gorgeous!
A handwoven tapestry that depicts three curious cats in an interior full of leafy potted plants. The cats are two calicos and a black cats amongst and assortment of orchids and green leafed potted house plants.Text of the description for the previous slide.
Elizabeth Blackadder and Dovecot Studios
Cats at Play. 1995. Tapestry, handwoven, wool, cotton, and linen. 205cm by 205cm, private collection.
Cats at play combines two subjects that Blackadder was well-known for: botanicals and cats. The tapestry depicts three curious cats in an interior full of leafy potted plants. The large tapestry emphasises the painterly marks and characteristics of her watercolour paintings.

With an overallpalette of greens, Blackadder postioned the cats and flowers to provide pops of deep colour to break up the subtle shades. Purple orchid stems, bursts of pinks and petals, and calico cats demonstrate her innate understanding of colour and compositions, while the subject matter holds a charm that many found so endearing in Blackadder's work.

it's two things, to me: 1) trans rights matter because trans people matter and deserve rights, not just because failing to stand for trans rights is a bellwether for inauthentic progressivism more broadly 2) if you can't be trusted on trans rights you can't be trusted on anything

I finished Lucia Berlin's A Manual for Cleaning Women and whilst sometimes a bit of a slog due to heavy topics but Teenage Punk is the perfect short story due to its cadence and short, punchy descriptions and Electric Car, El Paso is just hilarious. Some of her one line descriptions are pure poetry.
