What should we learn from this? The welfare state is part of the national defense, even though some may not realize it. That's why we shouldn't cut social security, especially not during times like this. That isn't sustainable, and as Janne has said, could lead to pro-Kremlin parties taking power.

Please read this great thread about how the social policies of the interwar period saved Finland in '39. Sure, we might have been missing some anti-tank guns and fighter planes, but what mattered more was the willingness to defend the country. That was crucial for the "spirit of the Winter War."
