We are also incredibly grateful for the support from local businesses and individuals in helping provide supplies for those on the front line. The Loch Garten Nature Centre remains closed, and we would ask everyone to adhere to the requests from the SFRS including not to travel to the area.
A graphic listing the ways people can prevent wildfires:

Follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code including never lighting a fire (portable fire bowls or BBQs) at times of high fire risk

Adhere to bylaws, such as the Cairngorms National Park fire management restrictions

Take all litter and food waste home with you

Fully extinguish cigarettes and dispose of them safely

Keep glass bottles and other reflective objects out of direct sunlight

If you spot a fire, report it immediately to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service on 999 and share your location (e.g using What3Words)

Good morning birders. Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SummerLovin, bird captures taken during summer. No alt today. Good luck. Have a blast. Taken two days ago. Fledgling Stonechat #birds #photography #ECK
A recently fledged Stonechat perches on a lichen-speckled branch against a cloudless blue sky. The young bird has soft, fluffy brown plumage with subtle streaking across its head and chest, warm buff underparts, and rusty-orange highlights on its wings and tail. Its large, dark eye and slightly tousled feathers give it an alert yet youthful appearance as it looks upward, taking in its surroundings. Bright sunlight illuminates the fine feather detail while the smooth blue background isolates the fledgling, creating a simple, striking portrait of a young bird beginning to explore the world.

In case you missed it, the account mrrobertbob posted an extremely viral but misleading pic of a "flapjack octopus" who then blocked everyone who correctly pointed out it was GenAI. Stop sharing posts with images without credit/provenance. Lots of fakes/grifter accounts out there.

I can tell because it's developed a cluster of cocoons on its body. These will hatch out as adult wasps in approx 1 week & the🐛will die. Fascinating 🌍🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🪲🐛🦋

Did u know? Flowers are coloured to attract their pollinators. Insects see colours differently to us.They don't see colours at the infrared end of the colour spectrum. They see other colours in the rainbow - pink, purple (yellow & orange too)-this also includes u.v colours that we can't see. 🌍🪲🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱

Any credible 10-year plan must put nature at its heart. @andyburnham.bsky.social, @angelaeagle1.bsky.social and @miattafahnbulleh.bsky.social: you now have the opportunity – and the responsibility – to back the action and investment nature needs, and put the UK back on track. We hope you step up.

The good news? We've known the solution for years. Nature underpins everything. Restoring it strengthens our economy, our national security, our food system and public health, while building resilience to drought, floods & wildfires. What's been missing is political will to act at pace and scale.

The Prime Minister, @andyburnham.bsky.social, has spoken about being honest about the challenges we face. So, as we welcome our new Prime Minister and cabinet, let's start there: Nature is disappearing. The climate crisis is accelerating. The UK cannot thrive while both continue unchecked.

Today's #SpringStories turns to the cliffs, where Pufflings stay tucked in burrows for weeks, fed sandeels by parents. By the time chicks fledge, adults will have returned to sea. When ready, little Puffins venture out under the safety of night & make for the open water.

Here's the second of two unusual birds that visited my yard in West Michigan this winter. It's a male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, a species I almost never run into even in warmer months. He's been around about three weeks now, though I haven't seen or heard him meowing for about three days.
