A Yellow Warbler I saw this morning just can’t leaf things alone. #birds #warblers #natue #photography

Looking up at mostly the underside of a bright yellow bird with fine red streaks on his breast. The bird is partially obscured by leaves as he perches on a branch against a brilliant blue sky.

Definitely looks like he's enjoying himself!

Two weeks ago I found a female Canvasback duck decoy in my flooded woods. Then lost I her. I started seeing her again a few days ago and was able to retrieve her this morning. But it's a different decoy. A female Mallard. Where are they coming from? #ducks #birds #wildlife #photography

Faded plastic female Mallard duck decoy with brownish body, bits of orange left on beak, and a hint of the purple-blue speculum feathers.

Remembering my wife Linda on her birthday. This photo is probably from the 1970s (before I'd met her).

Beautiful redheaded woman with long braids and radiant smile, seated on couch. I don't recognize the indoor location.

A pair of Hooded Mergansers showed up briefly last evening in the pond down the hill from my house. I couldn't get anywhere near them, so here's a photo from several years ago with a remote camera focused on an area where they sometimes appear. They are super shy. #Ducks #Birds #Nature #Photography

Beautiful photo of an often overlooked warbler. (I've only seen one once...)

The woods downhill from my house is flooded. Last evening I saw a female duck and couldn't figure out why she wasn't moving. She's a duck decoy. Where did she come from? I use a male Mallard decoy as a grave marker for my last-ever pet duck, Alex. Maybe she's visiting him. #duck #birds #photography

I had a very tough Easter yesterday. The day doesn't mean much to me, but it was my wife Linda's favorite holiday, and it made me miss her more than ever. She passed away last May from an illness similar to ALS. I'm still trying to get my balance.

Woodpecker with brilliant red hood, throat, and bib perched on top of dead tree stub, looking very regal.

Great shot! I probably haven't seen one in four or five years. There was a park nearby where they were reliable at times. But the 'wise' management cut down a red pine plantation in favor of native plants. The RB Nuthatches, Ovenbirds, and Pine Warblers are gone now.

Adult male Rusty Blackbird seen yesterday, looking very much like an all-black Red-winged Blackbird, but with those yellow eyes. The bubbling song is wonderful. #birds #nature #photography

Small, all black songbird, sitting on a thin tree branch, Body faces left, with head turned and pointed up, so that left eye faces the camera.

Another Rusty Blackbird shot from yesterday morning along the Grand River in Ionia County, Michigan. #nature #photography #birds

Mostly black songbird with flecks of rusty brown and iridescence. Quite a bit of brown on the face. Eyes are yellow.

Female or first-year male Rusty Blackbird found along the river this morning in Saranac, Ionia County, Michigan, USA. There were several, and my Merlin app ignored their songs and only seemed to hear a Northern Cardinal and Dark-eyed Junco. Not the first time an obvious song escapes Merlin.

there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for
