The main issue I had was the ISO wouldn't image to the USB right. I had to try 3 pieces of software, but it finally worked and from there, less than 30 minutes. Totally straightforward. I'm sold.

and I finally got brave and set it up this past weekend to offload some work from my MacBook. I'm medium at computer (I use Python and R some for work and am comfortable following instructions for terminal stuff), and the process went pretty smoothly to set it up.

Long story but I'm primarily a Mac user. Every occasional interaction with Windows (work computers mostly) for years has been infuriating. My MacBook is sad and old and dying, and I needed a Windows laptop for a short-term project, so I got it and it served its purpose and has sat for a few months..

I am a Linux user as of Sunday. My smugness knows no bounds. I haven’t had to update a piece of software I didn’t want and don’t use all week. No one says “share point“ or “onedrive” to me. It to less time to set up the distro (Linuxmint) than windows 11 spent updating when I got the laptop.

Solidarity

I came home from my clinic yesterday and saw a video of two young children in New Jersey being ripped away from a parent by
ICE agents, screaming hysterically. I also read that ICE agents fired at a man in New York with a 5-year-old in the car. This blatant disregard for the wellbeing of kids disgusts me. Elsewhere, I saw that Pete Hegseth is planning a public execution by firing squad, and I can't stop thinking about the lifetime of trauma it will inevitably cause the participating soldiers and anyone who views it. Yesterday on my lunch break, I walked past a long line of people waiting at a community center for dried rice and beans, while National Guard members in camouflage with guns stood across the street. Our country is in a bad place, and it pains me to live here right now. I want nothing more than to make it more kind, less depraved, more fair, and less impossible.
