I think the “empathy machines” idea was always overblown, but I also do feel that play is an essential part of life and it’s hard to come by when you’re an adult. More importantly, games are a huge part of young people’s lives at this point.

In general, I've found anxiety over what might be is usually way worse than the discomfort of the actual event itself -- if it even actually turns out to be awkward or downright painful. When the anxiety was fully justified... Well, that's the stuff of trauma.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the best RPG I've played in over a decade. It is A Video Game About Things, made for adults. Incredibly moving, stunningly beautiful, and remarkably well-designed. A triumph for Sandfall Interactive, and a game you must play. My review for @shacknews.com:
