Speaking of funny horror movies, "Midsommar" is hard to beat for incredulous comedy which I'm not entirely sure was unintentional. I mean, it was an homage to the hilariously insane OG "Wicker Man" with a nude romp among graves, topless seduction, Christopher Lee in a polyester suit... Like, c'mon.

Finally got around to watching "Weapons." It wasn't scary in the least bit. More LOL looniness and OTT silliness played with scenery-chewing creepy gusto by the feisty mom from "Field of Dreams." Only strictly necessary levels of gore. Daughter Lynn reports "Resident Evil" is a comedy, too.

Anyway, I'm done with old acts like the Who, Stones, Devo, Oasis as live music options. The wellknown bands I like are all grandpa rock just plumbing the seniors circuit, one step shy of casino gigs. Gotta see more up-and-comers in clubs. Durry (@durrymusic.bsky.social) were young, hungry, and FUN!

Caught Devo + B52s double bill. About 2/3 of the hockey rink's lower bowl. Mostly older folks, many dressed in appropriate period fashion, and just as many with canes. But yikes, outrageously expensive. Two tickets for 180 each, 40 parking, 100 pub dinner, 13 water... That's not sustainable.

JP pop singer Ado had her rock festival appearance canceled due to a typhoon, so she held a live stream in which she singlehandedly built her own stage in Minecraft and performed in Survival Mode. It is as batshit as it sounds.

Day 2 report on Jim Green Barefoot Ranger Boots. They come out of the box quite stiff and need breaking in. But I like how they're conforming to my feet already. The trad Euro design also looks great with jeans. They are a bit heavy but feel good.

With my house listed for sale, I've had to keep my house spotless and tidy for realtor showings at a moment's notice. I've had to vacuum thoroughly every couple days. One discovery -- and one that you'll probably roll eyes at -- instead of advancing, retreat as you vacuum to cover your footprints.

I've never understood how bands seemingly view their fans merely as revenue streams to be maximally squeezed. If I were in a band, I'd minimize the profit on merch and maximize quality. I'd want my fans to look good evangelizing for my band. They're your TRIBE and most ardent marketing people!

I made smoothies with powdered protein and creatine, but they were way too calorie-heavy and sugary with yogurt, blueberries and strawberries. So, I've taken to just mixing the protein and creatine in a mug of lukewarm water and chugging that sickly sweet goop. It's just this side of intolerable.

As a translator, I'd routinely have multiple documents and/or Excel-type multicolumn files open. So, it seems it'd be obvious I need tons of screen space. Before 4KTVs emerged as monitor alternatives, I bought a 30" panel. I told a client, expecting praise for proactivity. I caught shit instead.

Mmmmmaybe 50 cents in ingredients and about a minute of labor. So, yeah, don't expect customer loyalty.

Not saying couples shouldn't squabble. Of course people'll get pissed at each other over some unnegotiable matter that's based on personally arbitrary rules; that's only natural. But try to be constructive and work on the issue? Resorting to personal attacks meant to belittle... That's toxic.

Saw The Odyssey. As much as I love Christopher Nolan, this felt often narrowly focused on smaller scenes than going for epic bravura...and when it did, it often felt more cluttered and chaotic than rousing. It was still an engrossing movie, but it wasn't what I'd expected from the epic saga.

The other day, I asked what this thing was in this Dr. Slump (Akira Toriyama) cover art. The consensus: probably a cool, made-up design borrowing mainly from WW2 warbirds. I guessed maybe Pe-2? Turns out my guess was pretty good: it appears to be a Yak-4 with US nose art and wrong landing gear.

I saw this SD plane in a Dr. Slump episode. What the heck is it? Pretty certain it's not an OV-10 Bronco. Is it maybe a Petlyakov Pe-2? Or just a cool made-up design? I can't tell if it's a twin tail like Me-110 or a twin boom like P38. Paging Dr. Nyri A. Bakkalian(@riversidewings.bsky.social)!
