Hello, I'm just here to gush about things I like, which are usually niche or old videogames (sometimes both!), art and some anime (mainly older stuff too).

Kaizō Chōjin Shubibinman 3: Ikai no Princess It's um... already done. I wasn't expecting a long game, but I thought it'd try to stretch its 30+ minute runtime into at least an hour of playtime. Dammit. Now I can't think of anything to say. #retrogaming #turbografx

Sweet Home (1989) was a horror-themed RPG by Capcom released only in Japan for the Nintendo Famicom. Five investigators descend on a famous, and deceased, artist's abandoned mansion seeking his lost works and answers to what happened to those that went before them. (a spooky thread)

Touch grass or touchpads? The 2015 Steam Controller was maybe the most lovingly crafted hardware failure in video game history. But was it really a failure? Its insane history says otherwise. New episode of Punching Weight! Watch with your pets! RT's appreciated! 💀 youtu.be/xkMuoA88n4M 💀

I didn't enjoy NES Metroid until I stopped trying to follow guides and started drawing my own maps. I loved videogames as a kid because they gave me a peek into another world. They're not just a bunch of systems to overcome. Sometimes it's worth taking time to explore and chart your own course.

A few years ago I found this short game called Lemonhunter, which I love to replay, it's a platformer with some rogue elements, mainly randomized placements of items, powerups and pre-built level layouts. You always get a slightly different playthrough to shake things up. blizzz.itch.io/lemonhunter

Tetris in Japan, a thread: I’ve been thinking for some time now that the success of the Famicom version of Tetris and, more broadly, the popularity of Tetris in Japan owes a great deal to Sega’s arcade version. Both versions were released in December 1988, but according to Henk Rogers, the Famicom

September 3 1999, Bakuretsu Muteki Bangai-O debuted on the N64 in Japan! The publisher, Entertainment Software (who also produced (Grandia, Lunar SSSC, Ikaruga...) only produced 10,000 copies because they believed the 2D shooter would have a very niche market! Dreamcast received the game later on!

A 1993 Kellogg's Apple Jacks promotion for Super Mario Land 2 contained a score sheet for the game, to "keep track of points". Somehow they missed the fact that the game does not have a score system, rendering the sheet profoundly absurd and, fittingly, completely pointless.
This is a 1993 official Kellogg's Apple Jacks/Super Mario Land 2 promotion.
It contains a score sheet for the game. "Keep track of the points you earn", it says.
"SUPER MARIO LAND 20: 6 GOLDEN COINS
While you're helping Mario track down the six golden coins, keep track of the points you earn in each zone of Mario Land."
Super Mario Land 2 does not have a score system.
Like Super Mario Bros. 2 before it, or Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Bros. Wonder after it, it simply does not have "points".
If the writer somehow meant something else the game does track, like coins or enemies defeated, this is a failure of communication as the game or its manual do not call them "points", nor do they function as a score in the way points do in other Mario games.
It is much more likely that the writer simply assumed that all Mario games have points, and did not check the specific game in question.
