Hello, I'm just here to gush about things I like, which are usually niche or old videogames (sometimes both!), art and some anime (mainly older stuff too).

The fact you don't like too many cutscenes in games, but still love the Metal Gear Solid series is still really funny to me.

That's assuming this is what they meant, the person could naively just believe the internet didn't exist at that time.

A better way to put it would be before the internet was as accessible, fast and widespread to the point you can't do so many things without it like nowadays. I remember a time when having internet access wasn't taken for granted and not every device could connect to it, now it's so common.

The art in this is so cute.

Does this game even end? I mean, this is an old NES game, so it could just go on indefinitely until you game over, that was common back then. Well, we're not finding that out today because this is where I finally got a game over.

Third time is the charm, now I'm curious as to what will be the key placements in the next loop.
100
Noelle @swampwitch-noelle.bsky.social · 19h
Here you just stand where the key would be and jump, I feel like the game might be preparing me for something bigger, but I'm not sure yet.

Noelle @swampwitch-noelle.bsky.social · 19h
Alright, so now everything is gray, this time around the placement of keys is slightly different like I said I'd prefer, but... They're still invisible. Thankfully, they're still in the same general spot, just floating instead of being on the ground, so you just have to jump.

Noelle @swampwitch-noelle.bsky.social · 19h
Oh wow, I beat the second loop! It actually felt slightly easier, but that's just because by the time you can even get to this, you've already played enough of this game that you consistently deal with even the weirdest mechanics. Anyway, as you can see, there's "another adventure". Let's check it!

There's a key right in front of the character here, but you can't see it. Thankfully the game is short enough that this becomes a reasonable challenge, since you will still remember where the keys are (I do think just changing their placement would be better).

There we go, but there is a second loop, it's the exact same thing, but everything is green and the keys are invisible (sure, why not?).

I think they're celebrating Mario Bros as the start of the series here, kinda like how they count Super Mario Bros as the beginning of the series now whenever they celebrate an anniversary.

I still haven't beat it, but I got a decent high score, if that's anything. I'll do it eventually though, as a kid, this game seemed kinda impossible, so getting more or less halfway through the game IS progress.

Despite its reputation, Spelunker is actually really fun and not as difficult as it initially seems (oh, but what a terrible first impression it makes). I really like the exploration aspect, the precise platforming, the tight controls and how cautious you have to be in almost every moment.

Kaizō Chōjin Shubibinman 3: Ikai no Princess It's um... already done. I wasn't expecting a long game, but I thought it'd try to stretch its 30+ minute runtime into at least an hour of playtime. Dammit. Now I can't think of anything to say. #retrogaming #turbografx

Sweet Home (1989) was a horror-themed RPG by Capcom released only in Japan for the Nintendo Famicom. Five investigators descend on a famous, and deceased, artist's abandoned mansion seeking his lost works and answers to what happened to those that went before them. (a spooky thread)

This game felt so unsettling as a kid, not always, but some moments definitely felt a bit scary. The distorted voice samples, every single thing attacking your party at night time, some of the enemy designs and the gloomy music in some areas. It's a pretty fascinating game even today.

I always wanted to like this game, it's such a rare early example of a game with an all female cast and the artwork is pretty cool, the music is good, but the gameplay itself is kinda boring.
