so maybe elsewhere in texas, when you go through the (state-level, iirc) online process to change the address on your driver's license, you can check a box and magically update your voter registration as well. i am not a lawyer, i don't know!

it was at that point that i decided to go directly to my county's website and follow their links for updating one's voter registration. it has you fill out a form online, but then... it generates a pdf for you to PRINT OUT AND MAIL IN TO THE COUNTY REGISTRAR. you CAN'T fully register/update online!

at first, when i'd check my registration status it would show my old address. but then instead of that, around late july/early august, it started showing that i was just not registered. not at my old address anymore (good), but also not yet at my new address (bad!).

now to be fair here (sort of), i found the license update process/form online to be a bit difficult to navigate so it's possible in this case that i missed a small-print note that you had to finish the registration in person or by mail, BUT if that's the case i don't *remember* it.

in july i remembered that i needed to change my address on my driver's license, so i filled out the online form to do that. you can do it entirely online, just like you can do the post office address change entirely online. this form ALSO had a voter reg. update checkbox

throughout june, my registration stayed showing as being under my old address. i should also note that at NO POINT in this process did i receive any information from the state or county about any of this. i never got anything saying "you need to do [x] to complete the registration change" process.
