it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Genuinely one of the most insane things he's come up with. People are so fucking opposed to it, AI's been nearly starting wars and fucking the whole computing industry and the environment. When politicians pitch DataCenters at this stage I question weather or not they have any internal thoughts.

Hah that's so wild to me! I thought if they did it in NB it might just be in the English schools, but Janelle said they played the anthem in hers. My school was up north in a pretty small town (Pointe-Verte) in one of the most French parts of NB so maybe it was just certain districts?

Also it was the orriginal fully french "Ô Canada" which I'm so not used to hearing. We always had the Bilingual one play when we'd go to events and hockey games. To this day I only have the Bilingual version fully memorized, I always forget bits of both unilingual versions.

My daughter started at a daycare that's attached to a school a few weeks back and this morn we got there just in time to hear them broadcast "Ô Canada" throught the PA system. As someone from NB I always forget they do this in NS. Don't have a strong oppinion on it but it gives me a weird vibe.

This is why I hate "just a tool" so so so much. You can make a calculator without access to every calculation. You can make photoshop without access to all photos. Someone show me a genai tool that didn't require all of our labour in its production. It's plagiarism software.

TL This week, we learned Premier Tim Houston has included the MacKay Bridge among the Nova Scotia projects being pitched to global investors at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto.
Until last year, Halifax Harbour Bridges operated on a self-funded model: bridge users paid tolls, and that revenue stayed in the system to operate, maintain and ultimately replace the bridges.
Government eliminated the tolls, shifted those costs to taxpayers and dissolved the Bridge Commission.
Now it is looking for private investment.
Private investors aren't charities. They expect a return.
I asked whether the Minister of Public Works Fred Tilley could explain how an investor would get a return without tolls - whether he could name any example of a privately financed bridge in Canada where users don't pay tolls?
The Minister spent his response time commenting on his perception of my emotional state. He did not answer the question.
When I got the floor again, I gave government an example.
The Pont Samuel-De Champlain Bridge in Montréal is toll-free and was delivered through a 34-year, $4.2-billion public-private partnership. The Auditor General found that the private-financing model cost taxpayers $250 million more than traditional financing would have.
That brings us back to the MacKay Bridge.

Private investors do not invest for free. They expect to recover their investment and earn a return.
So Nova Scotians deserve to know:
? Who would ultimately pay the investor - bridge users, taxpayers, or both?
? Was bringing in a private investor the plan all along? If not, when did the Premier decide that private investors should make money from our bridge at Nova Scotia taxpayers' expense?

When I got the season1 DVD of the simpsons ages ago I was dismayed that it contained the france french dubbing. The french canadian dubbing is one of the few shows I find is just as funny as its orriginal english version.

Sometimes I like to make playlists as mock albums of my favorite artists. Ages ago I tried to make the most dissapointing weezer album possible for fun and named it the gold album. It's wild to me that they did make an actual gold album now and it's like one of their best.

My current Weezy ranking. Gold is very new so it may shift arround lower or higher. SZNS feel a bit low but I have not listen to them in ages and didnt leave a lasting impression. Raditude is bad but it has 2 decent songs on it, FalseMetal should be put on a tier so low it would reach earth's core.
