that "demihuman" means a different thing in furry circles than other alterhuman ones isn't inherently a problem; subcultures are allowed to define terms differently. but it annoys me personally because the furry definition would be So Useful to so many people in describing themselves, i'm sure of it

i think, to be fair to them, the word has seen an undue semantic widening. a lot of people ARE only using "holothere" to paint themselves as more serious in response to the perception of "therian" meaning quads and masks. the core community doesn't support that and probably shares your frustration!
