Wait, was rolling out the red carpet for Xi a Chinese psyop too? I'm really confused about the GOP stance on China.

The GOP is an opposition party even when it's in power, the idea that they are the perpetual underdog is central to their internal mythology and can't be disturbed by facts or the results of elections. It's also why they're bad at, you know, governing.

“In every poll, in every race, the undecided…are conservative Trump critics at this point,” says Democratic strategist Pete Giangreco. “Some of them will hold their nose and vote Republican; some of them will hold their nose and vote Democrat. But I bet a big chunk of them just stay home.”

It’s been darkly amusing watching people deal with the fact that Trump actually had not imposed a permanent change to our culture and politics that would allow them to be their worst selves without friction. Some are doubling down, hence the neighborhood bar fascination, and others are pivoting hard

an odd moment was the president posting an image wearing one glove and posing with xi, a photoshopped blonde woman, and a row of droids the president running an overtly political campaign ad paid for by the us government is a sign of blatant corruption and disregard for the rule of law

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

This is a familiar pattern that repeats itself every time Republicans get on this voter fraud kick. Another familiar pattern is Republicans who complain about voter fraud not living where their voter registration says they do.

Susan Collins has voted to confirm 60+ anti-abortion judges in her time in the Senate, and now she's voted for 3 more just since last week. Nice to see Senator Collins was able to take a break from lying about corruption to give a lifetime appointment to another anti-choice judge.

There's this really odd pattern with Bari Weiss, JD Vance, Richard Hanania etc, where they rise to prominence because their main skill is cultivating the friendship of wealthy patrons, but it's impossible to figure out how they do it because they constantly exude a pungent strain of anti-charisma.

Someone needs to explain to Trump that the worse Republicans do in the midterms, the better it looks for him. Just goes to show the party is utterly lost without him on the ballot! He’s literally the only Republican who has the juice. (Natalie, if you see this, please print and share.)

Humoring conservatives & acting like they make good points over the last 30 years brought us here. You never have to listen to them for the rest of our lives. It's time to treat career arsonists with the contempt they've earned instead of imagining a fake world where they're reasonable interlocutors

I know it goes without saying but as the right wing media-political complex runs from Trump we should remember that they played a leading role in--and gleefully profited from--enabling and promoting him. Accomplices trying to get off a sinking ship, trying to salvage what's left of their reputation

The entire point of the complaints about Jeffries meeting with Kushner was that he had no official role and there was no official reason for meeting with him. But Trump is actually the president. That's a significant difference that should be visible to the naked eye if you're not insane.

We've seen the media's asymmetrical love of this bite in two ways. The first is that this is deployed only against progressives who say things that upset the status quo. Dogwhistled racism *is* the status quo, so that's just dandy. The second is that the GOP can simply refuse even when demanded.
