Old hardware is so interesting. Sometimes recreating little limitations on modern hardware can actually be more difficult. Like on NES, sprites go off one side and come out the other because that's how the system works. Try recreating that in any modern engine and you'll be jumping through hoops.

My lack of struggle may be because I've always been an obsessive team builder. Planning from the start with good type coverage for Pokemon and moves. People who play a more lax may be affected more by the level discrepancy, and the victory road pokemon are only level 32ish, so grinding is tedious.

I don't think I ever struggled much. Lance barely touches level 50. Maybe needed a bit of save scumming and items but that's normal. Johto I usually end up under level 40 before the e4 if I'm raising a team of six, so maybe that's where the "underleveled" complaints come from. But its been a while.

A 1994 Japanese Nintendo catalog included a sample image to illustrate the capabilities of Mario Paint that depicts "KOOPA'S WIFE BIBINBA". While the character is likely not canon, her name is based on a discarded name for Bowser, so it may have been drawn by a Nintendo employee.

According to Motoi Okamoto, Mini-Game Director for Super Mario 64 DS, Shigeru Miyamoto would start midnight crunch sessions for the game's development by walking into the office and announcing "It's Mario time."

"In those days, Miyamoto would come to us at 11 PM, after he finished all of his board-member work, and say, "It's Mario time." At that point, we'd start a planning meeting that would run until 2 AM. At that point, Miyamoto would go home, leaving us with the words, "You should return home soon, for your health."
