Abolish and prosecute ICE. They did a murder in broad daylight today. Imagine what they're doing in the closed facilities we're somehow not even allowed to see.

This might be a hot take, but if you don't want games to be overtaken by AI slop, you have to choose not to play games that spotlight it. Companies don't care that you wag your finger, they care that you withhold your money and attention.

Here's a photo of my friend and colleague, Jorge Bautista, getting shot in the face with a flashbang grenade. The ICE Agent is so afraid of Jorge (who was posing no threat) that he has wet himself. Please share this photo. Everyone needs to know what cowards ICE agents are.

Well, it seems complaining on here helped - I'm currently training for a new job, my neighbor issues are resolved, and my wife even got bumped to full time hours in her position. I hope my friends in the games industry is able to find a turnaround as well

My Bluesky is mostly reposts, so apologies for the random complaining, but AAAARRRGH I'm in month 6 of no job, I've had maybe two interviews that went nowhere. My mental health is pretty much shot because of the state of my country and my friends having the same struggles.

While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI: At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.
AI impoverishes us at every step of the process:
- data centers pollute our environment
- energy use drives up costs
- content theft robs creators of income
- the actual output is used to displace workers and depress wages
- using it harms our mental health and impairs our competence
- the flood of AI slop is damaging our sociopolitical landscape

All in service of making a worse product - and world - to enrich a handful of already spectacularly wealthy people

The #1 thing that blows my mind about how most people use LLMs: they believe if they ask the LLM a question about how it works or how accurate it is, the LLM will truthfully answer them. I have seen SO many seemingly-smart people do this.

I desperately need journalists to understand that asking an AI what happened/what it did is like asking it to make up a bedtime story. As if "I panicked" shouldn't already be a dead giveaway.

I would like my state, every state, to mandate badges, name plates, no masks, for all law enforcement in the state. And if federal agents try to break the mandate, arrest them, then let the courts sort it out.

I hate this so much. I was laid off from my studio over a month ago, and all I've heard about is more layoffs, larger and larger goals to be considered "profitable", and no hope for the industry in the future. I just want to work on games. Instead I'll have to find a job outside the industry.

I feel like theres gonna be a big push on 'ethically' trained genAI soon & I just wanna remind people that even if they remove all the issues with what they train on, the **process** of training them and use of genAI is inherently bad due to the environmental impacts. 📰 news.mit.edu/2025/explain...
screenshot of an article with the following text:

The power needed to train and deploy a model like OpenAI’s GPT-3 is difficult to ascertain. In a 2021 research paper, scientists from Google and the University of California at Berkeley estimated the training process alone consumed 1,287 megawatt hours of electricity (enough to power about 120 average U.S. homes for a year), generating about 552 tons of carbon dioxide.

While all machine-learning models must be trained, one issue unique to generative AI is the rapid fluctuations in energy use that occur over different phases of the training process, Bashir explains.

Power grid operators must have a way to absorb those fluctuations to protect the grid, and they usually employ diesel-based generators for that task.

Increasing impacts from inference

Once a generative AI model is trained, the energy demands don’t disappear.

Each time a model is used, perhaps by an individual asking ChatGPT to summarize an email, the computing hardware that performs those operations consumes energy. Researchers have estimated that a ChatGPT query consumes about five times more electricity than a simple web search.

“But an everyday user doesn’t think too much about that,” says Bashir. “The ease-of-use of generative AI interfaces and the lack of information about the environmental impacts of my actions means that, as a user, I don’t have much incentive to cut back on my use of generative AI.”

Article is 'Explained: Generative AI’s environmental impact' by Adam Zewe in MIT News.

We’re going to completely miss our climate goals if you continue treating generative AI tools like ChatGPT as harmless. These tools and the data centers needed to run them are so power hungry that tech companies are quietly walking back on their climate commitments to meet the demand for gen-AI.
