I worry America is already there. The money in politics, the capture of the media, the army under Christian nationalist control. We in the UK have a very small window to attempt to regulate out billionaire influence, media control. Get closer to EU and Canada. Will we do it? I worry not.

I think everyone should go out to their local charity/2nd hand bookshop, look at the antiquities section (Oxfam bookshop is great for them) and buy a couple of the very old books they sell. Stick them on your bookcase at home and look at them, because they're often beautiful. Protect them. Save them

Reading "How Westminster Works... And Why it Doesn't" by Ian Dunt. Both fascinating, frightening, and eye opening in equal measure. Actually maybe more frightening than anything else. The chapter on Afghanistan was heartbreaking. Seems to me we need to fix Westminster before we get a UK Trump.

Crypto billionaires must be stopped from undermining democracy. This is more than that. Politicians are bought by corporations and the super rich. Normal people can't compete in the auction. Must ban all political donations. Let parties be funded by modest membership fees and public money.

European gas is above €82/MWh - the highest since late 2022. Hormuz remains largely shut and gas storage is at 68% going into winter. None of this started in Europe but we pay for it. The only exit is using less gas. Heat pumps, electrified industry, insulation.
