Open source spiral: Go to write paper about package you wrote. Try example data, edge case fails. Go to package, bug is in other package you call. Go to github package, create a pull request. Need to create issue for PR. Add hotfix. "Why didn't I get anything done?" - Hard to document this work.

2 sides of changing std of care Me: If we change X, we can potentially reduce injury Y. If that became standard of care, you could get CPT/paid for monitoring X. MD: Yes, that would happen. Also, monitoring X would then also become required, so if you didn't monitor X, they deny pay/reimburse.

Your blood has hemoglobin, which has iron that reacts to magnets, and changes shape when the blood has oxygen. Your brain cells need oxygen to break down sugar (food), and uses oxygen in that process. If we measure how the magnet sees different signals, we assume those brain cells are working.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses a big magnet to "see" what's going on in the body. Functional MRI (fMRI) measures how blood reacts differently to magnets when it has oxygen versus no oxygen, which relates to areas of the brain that are using energy.

The blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) signal, detected in fMRI, reflects changes in deoxyhemoglobin driven by localized changes in brain blood flow and blood oxygenation, which are coupled to underlying neuronal activity by a process termed neurovascular coupling. vs.

Whenever I read discourse on AI energy/water use that focuses on the "median query," I can't help but feel misled. Coding agents like Claude Code send hundreds of longer-than-median queries every session, and I run dozens of sessions a day. On my blog: www.simonpcouch.com/blog/2026-01...
A bar chart showing the electricity use of several daily activities with the subtitle "The 'typical query' is not a useful way to think about coding agents' energy use." The bar for a 'typical ChatGPT query' is not even visible. My median Claude Code session is somewhere between the average US household per minute and toasting bread for three minutes. My median day with Claude Code is something like running a dishwasher.
