Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

Fascinating thread from Ryan. Below is an explainer of what is likely going on with these v different looking variants, except in this new PJ case the chronically infected person seems to be continually transmitting infections that establish themselves in others. theconversation.com/the-emergenc...

The emergence of JN.1 is an evolutionary ‘step change’ in the COVID pandemic. Why is this significant?
The JN.1 variant has become dominant in Australia and around the world, causing large waves of infections. Here’s what we know about it so far – and why it’s so important.

And suppose we find out that PJ.2.1 was circulating among immunosenescent individuals in some relatively isolated nursing home in Ontario—and that its circulation could've been prevented with efficient ventilation and air filtration? I think this would be an important revelation for public health.

What if childhood COVID infections left a mark on fertility years later? A new mouse study asks exactly that. Prepubertal male mice were given synthetic SARS-CoV-2 RNA (no live virus). It triggered strong systemic inflammatory response, cytokine surge, lung inflammation. 1/6 🧵
Diagram showing effects of an experimental injection in male B6 mice and their offspring. The injected substance is not labeled. At 4 weeks of age, mice show lung inflammation, fewer white blood cells, and increased cytokines and chemokines, which are immune signaling molecules. At 8 weeks, mice show damage to sperm-producing tubules, reduced blood-testis barrier integrity, increased oxidative stress, and reduced testosterone transport. Expression of genes involved in sperm development is decreased: Kit, Csf1, Bcl2, Bcl6, Spo11, Mlh1, Atm, Msh5, Tnp1, and Prm1. An arrow leads to a mouse on a weighing scale, representing first-generation offspring, with reduced early growth and increased glucose intolerance.

A case study describes a 67-year-old woman who developed brain fog, dizziness, vertigo and balance problems after COVID-19 infection. Routine tests found no clear cause, but a brain SPECT scan showed abnormal blood-flow patterns. Researchers say more studies are needed to understand the findings.

This image displays a peer-reviewed open-access case report published on August 11, 2026, in the journal Cureus by Binh Pham and Georgi Stoychev. The article is titled "Relative Brain Perfusion Differences in a Patient With Persistent Neurocognitive and Vestibular Symptoms Associated With Post-COVID-19 Condition: A Case Report".
Below the citation information, the image features four 3D brain reconstruction maps, labelled A, B, C, and D, set against a stark black background. These renderings visualize the results of a brain perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scan.
The models showcase smooth, rounded anatomical surfaces displaying a multi-coloured gradient of purple, green, blue, yellow, and pink hues. These distinct colours map out a nonspecific, mixed pattern of relative cortical and subcortical perfusion differences within the patient's brain.
