Imagine how this stadium campus would play if we got rid of I-94 on its southern edge. Because right now, walking across that highway is an ugly reminder that Saint Paul can't have nice things. It's loud, and barren, and ugly, and smelly, and dangerous. Bring me regional rail, parkland, and housing.

Driverless cars would be great for seniors in rural communities, for example. But tech companies aren't going to make a lot of money catering to those people. The money is only going to be made in cities and by catering to wealthy people. That will most certainly come at the expense of transit.

To be fair, this is exactly what people said about Uber and Lyft. And there have been studies about how much more people drive when they don't have to worry about parking on one or both ends of their trip. There's little reason to think driverless cars won't lead to an explosion in VMT in cities.

Got my Covid shot today at the Highland Fairview Pharmacy. Now fully covered by my insurance (Healthpartners) which was not the case a couple weeks ago. They also carry Covid shots for kids under 12!

PSA for Twin-Citians with HealthPartners health insurance. As of today HP hasn’t approved coverage for the latest COVID jab so CVS is telling some people there is none available. Not true. Go in person and they’ll tell you it’s $280 out of pocket. Because I had the means, I got it.

I accidentally* bought 3 yards of this new Fableism and I’m about to make it my whole personality. The post-wash/dry crinkle makes it look quilted?! ✨ #sewingsky *discovered it online while sad and pre-ordered it without consideration for a pattern or why I needed 3 years…it’s only 44” wide?

Yarn-dyed woven fabric yardage. The fabric has a quilt-like crinkle and geometric pattern of rectangles and squares in various pinks, oranges, blues.

Made an appointment to get a Covid and flu vax at CVS, the covid shot was auto cancelled this morning. Still went to get flu and the pharmacists had no idea what happened - they have shots in stock. Turns out insurance said they wouldn’t cover it yet, recommended I get it at a clinic instead. Wow.

This weekend is going to be a great one at the Midtown Farmers Market! I’ll be tabling in the morning, hope to see you there! From the MFM newsletter today:

Midtown Farmers Market is celebrating East Lake Street this weekend! We're grateful to be a part of such a rich and vibrant community of small businesses and immigrants.

All day, Lake Street Council will be handing out free Lake Street merchandise, gift cards to Lake Street businesses, and even $5 vouchers to spend at MFM! Additionally, they will be leading a tour from 11:30am-12:30pm highlighting new murals, recovery efforts in Downtown Longfellow, and more. The tour will start at the market and be capped at the first 20 people who show up and register.

Finally, Longfellow Whatever, a local reader-funded news project, will be at the market all day facilitating the Lake Street Time Machine. The Time Machine is a pop-up project using VR headsets to let participants explore Lake Street as it has changed over the past 20 years.

Transit is really rough the next couple days. No trains downtown again til 8/20, 94 ped detour for Gold Line construction (missed transfer despite my best hustle). I’ve been commuting for an hour and haven’t gotten to downtown yet - one more transfer to go. I’m going to need a little treat today.
