Hey Lazyweb friends, I'll soon be in Las Colinas (Irving) Texas with some free time on my hands, got any tips on must see/do things while I'm there? So far, all I got is a visit to the Mustangs of Las Colinas sculpture (photo attached is one I found online, can't wait to see it in person!)
Bronze sculptures of galloping mustangs splash through a fountain at dusk, surrounded by illuminated office buildings in an urban plaza. The sculpture is called "Mustangs of Las Colinas"

25-ish years of working with HTML almost every day and still there are elements I don't recall ever using (yet). This is a great overview of what's out there, including the newer ones!

The Front-End Community is Still Alive and Beautiful
I thought about dropping an addendum into my last post to say just how overwhelmed I am, in the best possible way, by the way all of you in the front-end community have shown up to show support, both for me and for CSS-Tricks. I started to do that but then felt a new post...

I didn't realize there was so much interest in "nan", guess I always assumed it was a developer thing. But seriously, noticing a precipitous uptick in these weird failed-mail-merge-looking emails lately. I don't understand the goal, bait a response that validates it's a real email?
Screenshot of (what I believe to be) a sales email with pretty confusing wording that appears to have been a failed email template. It reads:

Steven,

Our partners back owner run companies in nan.

No pitch in this email, just a question about timing.

Does nan have a bigger team coming up?

Thanks,

I just used this analogy explaining CMS vs hand coded site to a client. * Hand coded - like a painter given a canvas * CMS - like anyone else given a paint by number kit. Pretty solid right? Limited palette and less options in favor of making it as simple as possible. They got it right away!

Can also attest that they're really nice people to work with! I would go after it myself if I had some map experience. This sounds like an interesting challenge for someone with the right skillset to help bring it over the finish line.

I just successfully resurrected a power washer by disassembling and cleaning its carburetor. Oil, air filter, and spark plug changed for good measure. Sentences I never thought I'd write, turns out you really can just do things!
A carburetor disassembled and mostly cleaned sitting on a table covered in paper towels. The choke of the carburetor is open, revealing the air tunnel to the other side.

Spent most of the evening making dinner and this peach and apple cobbler for a family gathering tomorrow. Pretty proud of it even though it's among the easiest things to make. Quality time offline, often just what I need to unwind and find some joy.
Two Pyrex glass dishes of peach and apple cobbler on a granite counter. Alternating peach and peeled apple slices are placed in even rows into the batter, the edges of each still sticking out.

Salma's DevRel perspective gets to the heart of feelings many of us are struggling with. We're in collective mourning over what we had, paired with the fear of an uncertain future. Don't know what the future holds, I just hope we don't lose the craft, community, and empathy that got us this far.

"Losing the ability to reason" is the scariest part of Gen AI to me. I've been comparing it to calculators, how often do we do the math anymore? Expand that to anything we can fit in an LLM chat, factor in that answers can be dangerously wrong, and no due diligence to realize when it happens.

All the cool kids were adding Bluesky reactions to their personal sites and I felt left out, so I finally made some time to get it added to mine. Supports Likes, Reposts, and Replies (with some basic thread support). Any interest in a blog post about how I did it for my Eleventy-based site?
An example of the Bluesky reactions section I added to my blog, shows up at the bottom below the post content. This example includes 2 likes and 1 repost where I display the clickable avatar of the person, followed by 1 reply (by me) that happened to have a threaded response too.
