A big hat-tip to the Arthur C Clarke/John Fairley & Simon Welfare "Mysterious World" trilogy (based on their TV series) but the winner is the "Usborne Guide to the Supernatural World." Influential to this day. I've still got it, and it often finds its way to the surface among other spooky items.

A recent trip to Scarborough gave me the chance to check out both of the town's ghost walks. The Black Widow Tour and The Scarborough Ghost Walk are both excellent and presented in quite different styles so are happily unique too, even when the stories told cross over. I recommend them both!
