Me, posting on LinkedIn about how I think it's weird that OpenAI is announcing "erotica" amidst ongoing child safety concerns, and it seems like grooming. LinkedIn people: Uh wow jumping to conclusions much? Sure, an AI bot COULD chat up an 8 year old, but isn't that the parents' fault?

I haven't used this app in 9 months, but aggressive enshittification everywhere is pulling me back here. Uh. What's up? Is this still a great place for SEO chats?

Listen, I know "toxic" is a little dramatic but it can also be apt. I used to link build. It's big business for a reason, and the financial incentive still generates bad practices. I've been part of great campaigns, and I've also seen all sorts of justifications for bad links.

I went pretty in-depth on YouTube's algorithm. Imo it's a really good idea for SEOs to understand it even if you're not focused on video. It's a look at what a Google property does when it has complete control over the platform. P.S. Tags don't matter.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I will make one (1) positive comment about LLMs: They've made it very easy to identify overused language and clichés. They build sentences with statistical probability. So if it "sounds like AI" that probably means it's overused.

However this turns out, it's going to be wild. There are two concurrent cases against Google that could end up forcing it to give up significant assets and advantages. I'd be a little more sympathetic to its arguments if it hadn't spent the last year ramping up AI theft and siphoning traffic.

People often ask me how to know for sure if an image was created by artificial intelligence. So I marked in the attached photo (in the red circles) some clues that make me suspect that it's a fabricated photo, although it's not possible to say with absolute certainty in this case.

The unfortunate reality being forced upon creatives in marketing is that we must understand gen AI and LLMs in order to compete. Check your outlines and briefs against LLM outputs. Don't USE the outputs, but check them. It sucks. But these are the algos modern search is built on. Know them.

Yesterday was foxes. Today is -- *spins the photo wheel* -- squirrels. *immediately drops you into a pit full of squirrels* (all photos by me) (don't forget to use alt text, folks, alt text is good)
A squirrel in center left of frame is in a tree with paws up and an awed face as it regards the red and purple fruit of a wild black cherry tree. The leaves are green and branches surround the squirrel. The squirrel is giving off real KHAJIT HAS WARES IF YOU HAVE COIN energy. He is definitely trying to sell you those cherries. Do not buy them. (Photo by me, Chuck Wendig)A tight closeup on a squirrel on a leaf-strewn lawn -- the squirrel is hunched forward with his fore-paws up and curled under him, in quite honestly what is the pose of a velociraptor. The squirrel is gray and brown. The squirrel is giving strong "FIGHT ME BRO" energy. He almst looks beefy, like he's been taking squirrel-enhancing drugs. (Photo by me, Chuck Wendig)Portrait oriented photo -- close up of a squirrel on the side of the tree, except I've rotated the photo so that the squirrel is level with the bottom of the photo, facing right instead of down. Can only see squirrel's head and forepaws, rest is out of frame. The squirrel's eyes are narrowed as if he is trying to nap. He has some schmutz under his chin, like he just ate a messy lunch. His paws cling to the dark park of the tree "beneath" him but also there is a tree "above" him (they're technically trunks of the same tree). The squirrel is giving off real "JUST ATE A BUNCH OF YARD MUSHROOMS AND AM HIGH AS FUCK" vibes. I apologize that I have gendered the squirrel -- I do not know what sex the animal is, I just went with "dude" for all these squirrels. (Photo by me, Chuck Wendig) Portrait photo of squirrel in center of frame sitting on angled branch of a big crabapple tree. The squirrel has its body turned half to the right, and is chowing down on a crabapple with what is truly a face of delight. The squirrel looks happy. This is a happy squirrel, clutching its little crabapple (kind of an orangey, now-mushy fruit) in his forepaws. Can only see one of his lower paws on the tree. He's chunky. His tail is poofy and curled up behind him. Giving off real CHUCK WENDIG IS GIDDILY EATING AN APPLE energy. (Photo by me, Chuck Wendig)
