I want everyone to remember that Y2K absolutely happened, and would have been devastating to global tech, if not for programmers working absurdly hard under crunch conditions to create a solution. Much like that, Climate Change does not solve itself. We need to put in the work.

There's been a lot of talk about fandom and how it can put horrendous pressure on creators, especially if the story doesn't go in the way that vocal factions wanted/expected it to. But it also places that expectation when it does. When the fandom enjoys. It's an issue of commodification (cont)

If criminals don't have rights, then all the government has to do is find some excuse to label people as criminals, and those people will no longer have rights. It's what literally every tyrannical government in all of history has done.

I will remind folks those images of Nazi book burnings aren't burning just any books. They're burning the library of Magnus Hirschfeld; a gay, Jewish doctor who created an institute dedicated to LGBTQ sex education and healthcare. And a man who pioneered gender affirming care surgeries.

I think that something a lot of Centrist Dem candidates and lawmakers don't get is that their constituents understand the message when they announce who their acceptable losses are. That message being that they are willing to discard those they are supposed to serve if they think it will buy power.

the hong kong protestors used the phrase "do not split" to mean that the radical protest and peaceful protest arms of the movement should refuse to criticize each other.
Yet if the movement is leaderless and anarchic, it isn't chaotic. It has guiding principles that allow participants to self- regulate even as the movement constantly reinvents itself. Among those principles is ("do not split"). Protesters use the expression to say that no one in the movement should condemn or obstruct the actions of fellow protesters they disagree with. People who oppose a given action should sit it out, but not try to prevent it.The use of force, in particular, is a divisive issue. Some insist on the necessity of keeping the protests peaceful, so that they will seem morally legitimate and may gain sympathy from the broader public. Others — especially younger protesters or protesters who consider that the lengthy sit-ins of the Umbrella Movement failed — believe that some measure of force has become necessary; otherwise, the government will simply ignore them.

The “do not split” idea acts as a bridge between these two factions by promoting mutual respect for diverging views within the protest movement.

Infighting is a function of fascism. The scramble for personal power and recognition is by design so that none challenge the Party, only each other. The question was never whether or not it would come to blows, only what will be left to salvage of our social services in the wake of it.

More on this btw. Potential way to kick it from your servers. The ID is 1153984868804468756 Remember, never believe an AI bot's claims that they won't train your stuff without permission. They will. #Discord
Discord recently partnered with a Generative AI called DomoAI and apparently they’re in every server but sneakily don't show up in the member list.

However they still use the art/images sent in the server to train their AI.

To bypass this, people have found the AI’s ID so we can ban them.
The AI has already been banned in this server, but for anyone here who has a server or is in another art/creative space, please use this advice and ban the following ID using the /ban command.

It may also be smart to start watermarking your pieces.

These days, I find myself thinking a lot about the saying "Truth is stranger than Fiction." Like Nietzsche's "God is dead," (Oh fuck what am I doing I just referenced Nietzsche on the internet) I've seen a lot of works in my years mocking the statement by taking it in the most literal terms. -

If (and I do think we all know why I say if) there is enough government left to salvage on the other side of all of this, one of the things that needs to be done is for there to be a sweeping reform eliminating all laws that allow for the elimination of due process. Yes, under any circumstances.

Letter from Mahmoud Khalil in ICE Detention

Swipe LeftLetter from a Palestinian political prisoner in Louisiana dictated over the phone from ICE detention

March 18, 2025

My name is Mahmoud Khalil and I am a political prisoner. I am writing to you from a detention facility in Louisiana where I wake to cold mornings and spend long days bearing witness to the quiet injustices underway against a great many people precluded from the protections of the law.

Who has the right to have rights? It is certainly not the humans crowded into the cells here. It isn't the Senegalese man I met who has been deprived of his liberty for a year, his legal situation in limbo and his family an ocean away. It isn't the 21-year-old detainee I met, who stepped foot in this country at age nine, only to be deported without so much as a hearing.

Justice escapes the contours of this nation's immigration facilities.

1/5On March 8, I was taken by DHS agents who refused to provide a warrant, and accosted my wife and me as we returned from dinner. By now, the footage of that night has been made public. Before I knew what was happening, agents handcuffed and forced me into an unmarked car. At that moment, my only concern was for Noor's safety. I had no idea if she would be taken too, since the agents had threatened to arrest her for not leaving my side. DHS would not tell me anything for hours - I did not know the cause of my arrest or if I was facing immediate deportation. At 26 Federal Plaza, I slept on the cold floor. In the early morning hours, agents transported me to another facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey. There, I slept on the ground and was refused a blanket despite my request.

My arrest was a direct consequence of exercising my right to free speech as I advocated for a free Palestine and an end to the genocide in Gaza, which resumed in full force Monday night. With January's ceasefire now broken, parents in Gaza are once again cradling too-small shrouds, and families are forced to weigh starvation and displacement against bombs. It is our moral imperative to persist in the struggle for their complete freedom.

2/5I was born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria to a family which has been displaced from their land since the 1948 Nakba. I spent my youth in proximity to yet distant from my homeland. But being Palestinian is an experience that transcends borders. I see in my circumstances similarities to Israel's use of administrative detention imprisonment without trial or charge - to strip Palestinians of their rights. I think of our friend Omar Khatib, who was incarcerated without charge or trial by Israel as he returned home from travel. I think of Gaza hospital director and pediatrician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who was taken captive by the Israeli military on December 27 and remains in an Israeli torture camp today. For Palestinians, imprisonment without due process is commonplace.

I have always believed that my duty is not only to liberate myself from the oppressor, but also to liberate my oppressors from their hatred and fear. My unjust detention is indicative of the anti-Palestinian racism that both the Biden and Trump administrations have demonstrated over the past 16 months as the U.S. has continued to supply Israel with weapons to kill Palestinians and prevented international intervention. For decades, anti-Palestinian racism has driven efforts to expand U.S. laws and practices that are used to violently repress Palestinians, Arab Americans, and other communities. That is precisely why I am being targeted.

One of the things that we have to internalize during these times is that activists are always deeply disliked during the time of their protests. We surround ourselves with like-minded people who want to talk about what's wrong and how to fix it, but many people are deeply invested cont.

Something to remember in the coming days is that "polite society" is a privilege of a working social contract. Attempting to preserve it when that social contract has broken down actively aids those breaking it. The fash will attempt to use peer pressure. People who want you dead are not your peers

A potentially important thought: There is a difference in language used around Peaceful Protest. Politicians say it and mean something that is out of the way, non-disruptive, and easily ignored. Activists say it and mean any protest not utilizing direct action Black Bloc Tactics.
