i think part of the problem is that people are used to diminishing interactions on ig/whatever. people are mostly there to post, to show and/or view, not to chat everyone up. so people move over to these small sites and don’t stick around bc performing isn’t enough, you’ve also gotta interact

like i only put on my symbols (hanky code, various patches & pins, etc) if i want to be engaged with bc of them, but so many people just take it as an image and not a beacon, you know? people tend to look at symbols than engage with them and that upsets me. i blame social media tbh
