Little time-lapse from last night. I don't know what they were doing on that field in the distance, whatever it was, it was loud!

They're all taken near Saturn's opposition, so roughly a year between them, but it's a year and a bit because opposition is later every year

Rob Tilsley @stargazerrob.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I don't know about any precessions, what I do know is that Saturn's axis is tilted, much like Earth's, so what's happening is that we see the rings edge on during Saturn's equinox, and then we see one pole or the other at the corresponding solstice

😆. That's inevitably be the way for me too, still not wearing glasses just yet, just a matter of time now though surely. I have to do that thing where I move what I'm reading further away 😂

Update to my Saturns. This goes: 2015, 2016, then annually from 2020 onwards.
9 telescopic closeups of Saturn presenting in a horizontal row, oldest captures on the left with poorer technique and equipment going through to run of clearer images. The ring tilt can be seen going from open to closed, and now opening in the other direction.

View of Saturn from last night 🔭🪐 #Astrophotography #Astronomy
Telescopic view of Saturn. Saturn centred, surrounded by featureless darkness. Saturn appearing as a large brown-ish disk, subtle banding is apparent on the planet, notably a dark band just below the equator. The rings can be made out crossing the disk, and with the Cassini Division on the left and right edges.

A few hours last night to capture The Triangulum Galaxy, also catalogued as Messier 33 (M33). A stunning face-on spiral galaxy located approximately 2.73 to 3 million light-years from Earth. #astronomy #astrophotography
The Triangulum Galaxy is the third-largest member of the Local Group of galaxies, trailing only behind the massive Andromeda Galaxy and our own Milky Way.
It is roughly 60,000 light-years in diameter (about 60% the width of the Milky Way), the galaxy contains an estimated 40 billion stars.

Sn2026aaiv shines just to the right of the core of NGC 7331. As of 9/8/26 this Type 1a supernova is increasing in brightness. I estimate it was magnitude 14 this morning. NGC 7331 is 44 million light years away. The galaxies below it are almost 10x further away. Details in ALT. #astrophotography
A spiral galaxy is tilted toward us showing its blue spiral arms and yellow center with some pink emission nebula visible. There is a bright dot in the core that is an exploded star. Then field is peppered with distant galaxies and stars in our own galaxy. The image was created using the best 303 out of 322 90 second exposures taken with a 8" Meade SCT and ZWO ASI2600MC color camera. Processed with Astro Pixel Processor, Starnet++, and Photoshop.

IC 5076 is a beautiful blueish reflection nebula which is illuminated by the hot blue supergiant star V2140 Cygni. It’s located in the constellation of Cygnus at an estimated distance of about 5,700 light years away from Earth.
