People of Illinois, we need your help. Get your cell phones out – record what you see. Put it on social media. Peacefully ask for badge numbers and identification. Speak up for your neighbors. We need to let the world know this is happening – and that we won’t stand for it.

A lot of people think that every international student admitted means one fewer spot for domestic students, when the opposite is more likely true - the tuition revenue international students bring allows public universities to provide substantial discounts to domestic students, improving access.

Kirk didn't serve in the military or hold office. The war hero treatment -- half-mast flags, military guard, Air Force Two escort, calls for a statue at the Capitol or to lie in the Rotunda -- shows that for MAGA, service to Trump has become the highest, most honorable form of service.

The judge who initially enjoined the cuts us a Reagan appointee who said the policies were the most racist he has seen in his 4 decades on the bench. This is what I mean when I say SCOTUS is a white supremacist institution.
Alt text: "Text excerpt describing a federal judge in Massachusetts ordering the Trump administration to restore funding after ruling the cuts were 'arbitrary and capricious' due to lack of analysis or evidence. U.S. District Judge William Young, a Reagan appointee, criticized the cuts as driven by racism and homophobia, stating in his 40 years he had never seen government racial discrimination like this. Most of the cuts were restored."

The immigration portions of this bill get less play but are disastrous for refugees. Turning humanitarian asylum into a pay to play scheme and effectively erasing protections for abused/abandoned children. What 9 year old can pay a $12,000 bribe to the USG just to not be sent back to their abuser?

Why does this matter? Because name recognition matters. One study I looked at that found name recognition alone can boost turn out for a candidate by 10 percentage points. Another found that it can boost it by 17%. What they are doing is, fankly, anti-democratic.

Justice Sotomayor's dissent in Skrmetti (which she's now reading from the bench) is deeply pained, accusing her colleagues of abandoning "transgender children and their families to political whims" and badly damaging "bedrock" principles of equal protection. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
Tennessee’s law expressly classifies on the basis of sex
and transgender status, so the Constitution and settled
precedent require the Court to subject it to intermediate
scrutiny. The majority contorts logic and precedent to say
otherwise, inexplicably declaring it must uphold Tennessee’s categorical ban on lifesaving medical treatment so
long as “‘any reasonably conceivable state of facts’” might
justify it. Ante, at 21. Thus, the majority subjects a law
that plainly discriminates on the basis of sex to mere rational-basis review. By retreating from meaningful judicial
review exactly where it matters most, the Court abandons
transgender children and their families to political whims.
In sadness, I dissent.
