We will need both carrot (incentives for clean energy) and stick (disincentives for fossil fuels) to follow the needed decarbonization pathway. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something — probably (directly or indirectly) fossil fuels.

Made some upgrades to my desk recently. New keyboard, with custom keycaps, new vertical ergo mouse with a sensor good enough for fps games. And I’m finally ditching my 1080p dual monitor setup for a single 1440p ultrawide tandem oled. I need a bigger desk, lol.
A desk setup featuring a curved monitor displaying a starry galaxy wallpaper. In front of the monitor is a mechanical keyboard with black, white, and orange keycaps, resting on a large desk mat. A small figurine stands at the base of the monitor stand, flanked by two black studio monitor speakers.

A queen on her throne. She knows who runs the place.
A photo of a black cat resting on a bench. She is lounging in a relaxed position looking extremely regal. Like she didn’t just spend the entire day chewing hundreds of dollars worth of usb, hdmi, and xlr cables.

I've had an unread notification in Teams for about two years now. Our org automatically deletes chat history after 48 hours and if you don't read a chat in that time it stays forever unread!

Apparently this concept is difficult so i drew a picture
A very basic drawing of a bar with good on the left, silence in the middle, and evil on the right.
There is an arrow pointing to the division between good and silence that says ‘Where the line of
opposition actually is’

There is another arrow pointing to the division between silence and evil that says ‘Where people think the line of opposition is’

BC Parks charges campers a $6 “transaction fee,” $5 surcharge for using its call centre, and $6 fee for changes and cancellations. In 2023, it processed over 366,000 reservations—meaning reservation fees alone brought in more than $2.1 million. thewalrus.ca/the-ticketmaster-of-ca…
On the left: an image of rows of camping icons featuring tents and trees on a light grey background. The icons are a darker grey apart from one in the top left corner that is bright blue. On the right: text that reads “The Ticketmaster of camping: a US company is raking in millions in fees. Long queues. Rising prices. What’s a hike worth in a Canadian park?”

Many folks were leery about this week's announcement of a Geoff Keighley-backed grant to support games industry workers, given how The Game Awards Future Class ended. I appreciate those who shared their thoughts with me; despite misgivings, folks hope things turn out better this time.
But many people seized on Keighley’s participation, especially in light of his previous efforts to support games industry workers via The Game Awards Future Class, a program that began in 2020 and inducted its last class in 2023. In 2023, Future Class leadership and participants clashed over participants’ request that Keighley acknowledge Israel’s genocide in Gaza at that year's Awards, and subsequently over efforts by participants to improve the program’s offerings.

The experience has left some people leery of another Keighley-backed initiative. “A program like [Nova], with this much money going behind it, can’t hurt,” one Future Class participant, whom Aftermath is granting anonymity due to fear of career repercussions, told Aftermath. “I just hope the people in charge succeed with the ideas they’ve cultivated and subsequently get the flowers they deserve, because Keighley didn’t deserve the flowers he so eagerly picked up for his attempt at bettering the industry through Future Class.”

"I hope… recipients of this program receive what they are promised, rather than becoming a cheap bit of good press for Mr. Keighley,” said another Future Class participant, whom Aftermath is granting anonymity over career concerns.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

"Profitable, but not profitable enough" is the toxic end game of capitalism. The 3,200 employees have zero value, their skills and institutional knowledge are discarded, long term success is burned for short term gain. Earning 3% profits isn't enough to leech off for shareholders, so destroy it all.
