Back into Warcraft and one thing I'm getting increasingly frustrated about is the fact that the internet is turning the Alliance v Horde into an extension of the culture war. Various streamers have contributed to this, but it's spilled over into way more other stuff as a proxy for everything.

I do wonder how many incredible games, franchises etc have been killed over the years for failing to meet unrealistic and wild expectations from investors. There's only so much time in the day, money to go around and actual people into video games at a level beyond CoD, FIFA, Fortnite etc.

I think I realised something today. I'm tired of people calling anything that deals with bleak content, unhappy outcomes, extreme melancholy, nihilism or a dark aesthetic "edgelord". A lot of the same people who speak about stuff like this only ever play fucking Stardew Valley. Long live Grimdark.

While I know there is systemic understaffing, underfunding and deliberate erosion of the NHS from the top down. I’m still convinced 80% of the issue with wait times in hospitals is people being rude to staff, and the other 20% is people who are lonely and feel a pain so time waste for attention.

I suspect part of the massive hype for WoW Forever isn’t just nostalgia, but the possibility of a return to the golden era of MMOs as a possibility. I know OSRS has ran way ahead of WoW in that regard. But the idea of a game that takes its time, but also doesn’t take the piss is intoxicating.

I have been playing Hell is Us and by all rights that game should have more spoken about it. More games should rip away the quest log/markers and world map. Weirdly fun to get lost in a world and have to actually think without my thought process being outsourced to markers on a world map.

Finished Mortal Shel 2. 41 hours played. It was 40 quid. Just over a quid an hour and I pretty much enjoyed every minute with it aside from a couple of bugs here and there. Most fun I’ve had with a souls-like since Sekiro.

The video game industry has always been volatile (I published Press Reset in 2021!) but the skeleton key to understanding the current state of things is this: Big games now cost 10x to make what they did 15 years ago but most do not generate even close to 10x the revenue. Simple as that

Those Wolverine reviews are way worse than I was expecting. I was expecting a sort of 6/10 vibe but how can you drop the ball on a character that is basically pre-built to be a power fantasy and with like 60 years of stories.
