Love video and board games, sci fi books, my powerchair and my dog. Ex mathematician, still hopelessly a nerd. Mostly housebound due illness. Will probably talk a lot about disability.

Many are arguing this highlights the need for better diagnosis and treatment of #autism. While true it also highlights the horrendous and dehumanising treatment of people in some #MentalHealth hospitals. This urgently needs investigating. #Disability www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I must have made a terrible mistake. My "discover" feed is full of cat photos but not a single dog photo. Going to lie down to recover.

Happily replaying the Outer Worlds, having upgraded to the new edition. Looking forward to a bunch of new games after that. New Year is always a difficult time for me and I am already starting to feel the effects. Video games and my dog are a lifeline.

The use of #AI in government bureaucracy is problematic. You only need look at the Horizon scandal to see the dangers when computers get it wrong. Now it is being deployed against welfare claimants in the UK despite knowing it is biased. #disability www.bigissue.com/opinion/dwp-...

AI has brought bias and hunger to the DWP benefits system
AI should be ensuring the benefits system is supporting claimants from the start – but leaves them fighting for support they deserve.

Have logged on to discover that playing video games and having chronic pain will apparently turn me into an assassin. Will now go away and reflect on my life. Nah. Just kidding. Will now go away and play some more video games. #disability #ChronicIllness

Drat. I forgot to buy an advent calendar again. On that note, shout out to all those people who weren't allowed a chocolate advent calendar when they were kids. Double shout out to those who had to reuse the same advent calendar each year with the same pictures.

Spoon Theory: Tasks cost spoons (energy). Healthy people have infinite spoons. Sick people only have a few, so must carefully choose basic daily tasks, or get sicker. Why spoons? The author was in a cafe when they invented the metaphor. It's useful but never meant to be deep. #disability #spoonies

As an aside, I am now suffering from wheelchair envy. #disability Image shows Marissa Bode sitting in a manual wheelchair, which although looks fairly uncomfortable, being very upright and mostly made of wood, has fantastic clockwork like decorations on the wheels.

Looking for #disability access advice. Almost got stuck in mud in my electric #wheelchair in my garden. There is a lip of about 2 inches to the path. Fine in summer, not winter. What sort of ramp might be suitable, won't move or sink? I can't drill into path but need access due dog 🐕. #accessibility
Image shows a paved garden path next to some grass. The grass is churned up and muddy, with clearly visibly tyre tracks.
