Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I'm thinking of the survivors and the children who never came home, and their families. As a Métis person with Cree heritage, this day is personal for me, and I'll keep listening and learning. 🧡 #EveryChildMatters
A glowing orange feather rises on the left side of a dark graphic. Beside it, large gold and orange letters read: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Below that: A day to remember, reflect, and honour survivors, families, and communities. September 30. Snowy mountains and a calm lake glow at sunset along the bottom, with the gold Zachary Weeks, Disability Advocate logo over the water.

Kristi and Ben, I am so sorry. Ben is fully dependent and was still deemed employable under ADAP. The way this government decides who is "employable" is irresponsible and undignified. Thank you for joining @marierenaud.bsky.social to share your story. 💚 #AISH #ADAP
Marie Renaud, in a blue blazer, stands at a podium with a sign that reads Alberta's New Democrat Caucus, listening as a woman in a red sweater speaks. An Alberta flag is behind them. A post from the Alberta NDP is laid over the photo. It says: The UCP and Danielle Smith have failed Albertans with disabilities. It shouldn't take public pressure and media attention for someone to get approved for AISH. How many other Albertans who are fully dependent on caregivers are being told they should be able to work? It's time for the UCP to cancel the ADAP transition and strengthen AISH. Albertans with disabilities deserve dignity, security and a government that supports them.Page 1 of an Alberta NDP news release dated Sep 29, 2026. Headline: UCP's ADAP transition leaves Albertans with disabilities being told to just get a job. Text: The UCP government's transition from AISH to ADAP leaves Albertans with disabilities without the support they need. Families are being told that loved ones with severe disabilities, who are clearly unable to work, are considered employable and should just get a job. Marie Renaud, Alberta NDP Shadow Minister for Community and Social Services, spoke today alongside Kristi Hall-Busque and her son Ben Hall-Busque. "Ben is fully dependent, uses a wheelchair, and requires overnight nursing care. We were told directly that he was considered employable, and I still can't wrap my head around that," said Kristi Hall-Busque. "The obstacles we've faced over the last few months have been dangerous, cruel, and completely unnecessary."Page 2 of the Alberta NDP news release. Text: As always, after significant public pressure and media attention, Ben's family was informed this morning that the decision had been reversed and that Ben had been approved for AISH following a review. While the family welcomed the decision, they said it does not erase the months of uncertainty and barriers they faced navigating the process. "The UCP promised Albertans with disabilities they wouldn't lose support under this transition," said Marie Renaud, Alberta NDP Shadow Minister for Community and Social Services. "Yet we're hearing story after story from Albertans with disabilities who have lost benefits or spent months living with uncertainty while trying to navigate a broken system." "Ben's approval today doesn't change the fact that a young man with disabilities was initially deemed employable. Families should not have to request reviews, fight government decisions, or go public to access the support they are entitled to. The UCP's ADAP transition has created unnecessary hardship for vulnerable Albertans and left too many people behind."Page 3 of the Alberta NDP news release. Text: "It's time for the government to admit it's failures. Scrap ADAP and strengthen AISH." The Alberta NDP continues to call on the government to reverse the transition to ADAP and restore a strengthened AISH program that provides Albertans with disabilities with the support they need.

Alberta has a $2 billion surplus. That gives us a choice about what we do with it. Disabled Albertans lost $200 a month when ADAP replaced AISH. Minister Nixon says this is an opportunity. It is. Reverse the cut. If you agree, help make sure Albertans hear this.💚
Graphic showing scattered Canadian $100 bills in the background with a white social media post card from Zachary Weeks. MLAs say $2,200/month isn’t enough for rent. But if you’re disabled in Alberta? You’re expected to live on $1,901 total. That’s groceries, housing, meds…all of it. If that sounds wrong to you, it’s because it is. Share this if you think Alberta can — and should — do better.
A post on X by Zachary Weeks (@zacharyweeks) features a satirical exchange in white text on a black background. It reads:
“UCP: MLA housing allowance is now $2,200/month — the old rate wasn’t enough to live on.
AISH RECIPIENTS: So can we raise AISH from $1,901 and keep the CDB?
UCP: No, we’re clawing back the CDB so you still only get $1,901.
AISH RECIPIENTS: That’s below the poverty line?
UCP: [looking away] You’re so resilient. Truly inspiring.”
A circular headshot of Zachary Weeks appears beside the tweet, showing him smiling in a blue shirt against a purple background.
