Newcastle's keep has several ghosts, but perhaps the most unusual is that of a Spanish cavalier who walks across the Great Hall and is only visible from the waist down. Other spooks include a mischievous flower girl who haunts the stairs and Roman soldiers. #SpookySunday #folklore #gothic #wierd

The Occult Files of Dr. Spektor was a comic book from the early 1970s. Each issue featured Dr. Spektor investigating a different occult occurrence which was sometimes a ghostly event but it usually involved something like a mummy, werewolf or another corporeal creature he could punch. #SpookySunday

Illustration of a man in armor, wielding a sword and torch, confronting a ghost-like figure draped in a white sheet. The man’s discarded helmet rests on the floor nearby, while two additional armored figures in the background bow their heads.

One of the most fascinating 19th Century accounts of a haunting is that of the HMS Asp, which found itself possessed of a mysterious phantom woman, and other phenomena, from 1850-7. Its skipper, Capt Alldridge, RN, recorded his own and his crew's terrifying experiences in 1867. [Cont: #SpookySunday

A 1906 magazine illustration by illustrator Walter Clark.

Two seated figures at opposite sides of a multi-drawered wooden table. At left is a robust older man with white hair and bushy moustache, wearing a dark coat and a stern expression. At right, leaning forward, is the dark-hooded figure of the Grim Reaper, Death himself, only his skeletal hands showing.

On top of the table, Death's hourglass sits among an array of medicinal bottles, and beneath the table sits a black bag, indicating the human figure is almost certainly a doctor.
