Newcastle's keep has several ghosts, but perhaps the most unusual is that of a Spanish cavalier who walks across the Great Hall and is only visible from the waist down. Other spooks include a mischievous flower girl who haunts the stairs and Roman soldiers. #SpookySunday #folklore #gothic #wierd

The Occult Files of Dr. Spektor was a comic book from the early 1970s. Each issue featured Dr. Spektor investigating a different occult occurrence which was sometimes a ghostly event but it usually involved something like a mummy, werewolf or another corporeal creature he could punch. #SpookySunday

Like most monastic communities on the east coast, the one at Lindisfarne was raided by #Vikings. Dating from the 8th C is the ghost of a monk fleeing from the (medieval) ruins. He is thought to be escaping with relics and other treasures as he runs across a causeway to safety at Beal. #SpookySunday

The Dyott crest & chapel at St Mary’s where generations of the famous Lichfield family lie. The death of a Dyott was marked by a torchlit procession accompanied by servants from their Freeford estate. No family members were present for fear of being the next to follow to the grave. #spookysunday

For at least a hundred years, Cape Hatteras lighthouse in North Carolina has been #haunted by the #ghost of a large black and white cat. It is friendly but vanishes whenever anyone tries to pick it up (as do real ones,sometimes) #SpookySunday

The Sallie House is a haunted house and tourist attraction located in Atchison, Kansas. The house dates back to the mid-1800s, and is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young girl named Sallie, #SpookySunday

One of the most fascinating 19th Century accounts of a haunting is that of the HMS Asp, which found itself possessed of a mysterious phantom woman, and other phenomena, from 1850-7. Its skipper, Capt Alldridge, RN, recorded his own and his crew's terrifying experiences in 1867. [Cont: #SpookySunday

In the 16th and 17th Century in London, bear baiting was seen at the Tower of London and a ghost of a bear is said to appear from behind the door of The Jewel Room. Also a ghost of a black bear is reported to have appeared near the Martin Tower in 1816. #SpookySunday

#SpookySunday It is said that circling the huge oak tree growing inside the ruined church at East Somerton, Norfolk [three times widdershins] will summon the ghost of a witch reputedly buried inside the church. The oak tree is said to have sprouted from the witch's wooden leg!

A headless female ghost, said to be a murder victim, was believed to wander the ruins of the medieval Bagot’s Castle. In 1934 archaeologists digging at the site were warned by an anxious local that their activities would provoke the ghost. #SpookySunday

According to legend, the ghost of Charles I wanders the halls of Christ Church, sometimes with his head and sometimes without. During the Civil War, the King used the Christ Church Deanery as his palace and the Great Hall for counter-Parliament sessions. He was said to love the city. #SpookySunday

#SpookySunday A Haunting in Venice is the third film with Kenneth Branagh as Poirot, loosely based on A Halloween Party by Agatha Christie. I haven't read the novel, but found the film pleasingly ghostly. Dodgy mediums, dead children, PTSD, and grief, avoid slipping from drama to pantomime.

One of the buildings in Deadwood that certainly deserves a spot on any list of the most haunted locations in South Dakota would be the Lucky Nugget Casino. This is a favorite spot for paranormal investigators and over the years there has been #SpookySunday 🧵
