Webb reveals one of its largest images to date! 😲 This starry view shows the nearby star-forming region IC 348. Here, astronomers searched for brown dwarfs, objects which are less massive than the smallest stars. Read more 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl... 🔭🧪
A star-forming region. It is blanketed in thick clouds of gas and dust, millions of kilometres across, that form swirling patterns. Bright stars are scattered throughout the clouds, with the densest cluster situated in the centre of the scene. Each is crowned with six long points created by the optics of the telescope’s mirrors. In the upper right, a couple of hidden stars blast out long, glowing jets of material. Credit: ESA/Webb, NASA, CSA, K. Luhman, C. Alves De Oliveira, M. Zamani (ESA/Webb)

This amazing view comes from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, it shows the LHA 120-N44 nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The LMC is the largest of the small galaxies that orbit our Milky Way galaxy 🧪🔭 www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed...
A dense field of stars fills the image, surrounded by wispy clouds of gas and dust. Pale blue and grey nebulosity forms an intricate web across the scene, with darker clouds of dust concentrated towards the lower right. Numerous bright stars appear in shades of blue, white and orange.

😮 One of the last images sent back from Saturn by the NASA/ESA/ASI Cassini spacecraft, this spectacular view of Enceladus setting behind Saturn was taken on 13 September 2017 🧪🔭 ciclops.org/view/8619/En... #Astronomy #Space #SpaceHistory @science.esa.int
The view is part of a movie sequence of images taken over a period of 40 minutes as the icy moon passed behind Saturn from the spacecraft's point of view. Images taken using red, green and blue spectral filters were assembled to create this natural colour view. Saturn's cloud tops appear pale yellow and there's a thin band of blue on the horizon. Enceladus is partially visible as a grey disc and brighter crescent.

I'd heard rumours about an STS-1 post-flight tour in Europe, and it turns out that in June 1981, John Young and Bob Crippen did visit the Paris air show, and 'made public appearances and met with aerospace industry leaders and aviation figures' according to Google and other sources...

🆕 This NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope image shows planetary nebula NGC 2392, nicknamed the 'Lion Nebula'. This near- and mid-infrared composite image reveals the complex structure of the nebula 🧪🔭 esawebb.org/images/weic2... @science.esa.int @stsci.edu
Planetary nebula NGC 2392, also called the Lion Nebula, against the black background of space. The nebula is in the centre, circular in shape, and looks like a male lion’s head. In the very centre is a small, pinkish-white circle with eight-point diffraction spikes, a white dwarf star. Surrounding the star are light purple-pink cavernous bubbles and shell-like rings. The bubbles and shells collectively form an oval with two small, wide arcs near the top, reminiscent of a lion’s face and its ears. What appears to be extended outward from the lion’s face is a thick ring of purple-blue material. The width of the ring is consistent throughout and resembles a mane. The area closest to the lion’s face looks cloudy, while the edges of the mane look like there are clumps of dust with comet-like tails and strands. In the background are distant galaxies and stars. Some galaxies appear as small yellow and orange points of light and others with visible spiral structures. A couple of the stars have diffraction spikes.

These waves are sand dunes that have been moulded by martian winds – they can tower more than 100 m above the surrounding surface. Their shiny, slightly metallic appearance is caused by frost deposits on their south-facing slopes.
