SUPER excited for this, after a year of chasing the angle, 30 minutes of waddling around up and down a parking garage, and over 6 hours of editing: A murder of crows flies towards the camera, in front of the full Moon, set to Blind Guardian's "Nightfall" and the sound of the crows themselves. 🪶 🐦‍⬛

What is happening is not that AI-generated cultural goods are replacing human-made cultural goods; what is happening is that capital is flowing out of the production of cultural goods *entirely,* making us all poorer for it.

oh, I know they were there, I've been in Tolkien fandom for like, over 25 years, I've Seen Things ;D but they were always a minority, no matter how loud. and yes, it's really strange to still encounter them as adults

yea, I remember picking it up in a bookstore when I was 22 or something, leafing through and thinking that its kinda funn (I think it was widely regarded in polish tolkien fandom as sort of satire/joke, all my evil stan friends preffered their evil blorbos to remain evil)

what a mood "but you'll have the whole afternoon!" yea, I'll crash about 3pm and be brain dead and just sit or wander aimlessely around house until my adhd will fire off night shift, and instead of a slim hope to keep my sleep schedule reasonable, it'll get worse

I'm watching things in icelandic as part of language learning (I'm passable at reading, but my grasp of spoken language is pretty low), but there's so few shows in icelandic available (at least where I have subs) that few are forever etched into my brain, lol

I grew gooseberries this year, ate them straight from the bush and was transported back in spacetime into my grandparent's garden, I know the feeling (also there are allotment gardens right next to where I live, one day I will finally break and check how could I get in on it, balcony is not enough)

I also read a pulp slasher horror novel at 11 yo that scared the shit out of me, but it's a story about how it's good to let your kid read whatever they like, because when my mom came home and found me upset in the corner, I just told her what's up and she comforted me, instead of having to hide it

aside from school reading, I have surprisingly few fucked up encounters, most notable one is a book I got as a prize when I graduated first grade. it had to be mistake to give it to 7yo, because it was diary from Warsaw uprsing with a lot of bloody details. I gave up on it after few pages

btw my uncle has a story about how some local elder "wise" ladies put him in the cauldron nested with straw over the fire as a remedy for fever, but thankfully his dad came home and put an end to it (it happened some time in late 50s-early 60s in Silesia)

I'm 1701% sure hummus was from the store, and not a good one. pita was pre-cut and dried up, it looked like someone's first attempt at making it. pakora was sad and soggy. I felt so bad for my brother who took special care for me, that I lied and said it was ok, but it was the most "wtf" meal I had

not a restaurant but my brother's wedding reception. he wanted to make sure I have a meal (I'm vegan), so asked me to provide some ideas for the cook they hired, and I picked two things that I assumed are hard to fuck up: hummus with pita and veg pakora. I received.... uhm, certainly something

So @kjcharleswriter.com says when you work in a googly eye factory, you become somewhat immune to thinking that sticking googly eyes on an object makes it alive. It applies to “can AI think?” but maybe also all us creative types who watched them loot our stuff by slapping their googly eyes on it.

Describing the intention of something that doesn’t exist dos not summon it into being and instill it with that intention outside of the boundaries of the story. AI is not breaking out of boundaries. It is not a being. You’ve just all forgotten what the fuck reading feels like.

long time ago I went to kayaking trip and one of staff members was a survivalist type guy from Ukraine who would routinely came to camp spot a bit later than everyone with a huge bag of mushrooms almost noone else could name. they were, in fact, delicious (also his cooking skills very great)

oh, same, basically the only mushrooms I will eat are kania and the tiny tiny vinegar pickled ones my grandma used to make (yes I liked the ones that were whole but very small the best. grandma would specifically hunt the forest floor for tiniest baby mushrooms for me <3)

happy thursday to all who celebrate #criticalrole #criticalrolefanart #thimble #traditionalart
Square watercolour painting of Thimble from critical role. She’s light skinned pixie with short brown hair and fluorescent light green dragonfly-like wings, wearing dark green sleeveles top and short puffy pants. She’s flying up, holding a short, thin sword in her left hand, and big, shining sword, that looks like it should be too big for her, in her right hand. There’s a wave of light and sparkles in the wake of sword, obscuring most of Thimble’s legs. Her wings also sparkle. Background is very dark colour wash, in muted blacks, sickly yellowish greens and purples.

When people say they’re anti-AI, they’re clearly talking about generative AI in the arts and LLM slop that C-Suite jackoffs want to use to replace them. You know this. I know this. Everyone knows this. So the “then don’t use spellcheck if you hate AI” talking point is disingenuous horseshit.
