In practice, AI literacy doesn’t start with building the tool for your personal use. It starts with understanding yourself as a collection of tasks who should subcontract those out to a machine. Almost no regular person’s life currently exists as such.

My God. This is the center of Kyiv. A civilian building, a historic one, built in the 1850s. Russian terror knows no bounds. They are attacking and killing Ukrainian civilians just because they can. If Russia is not stopped, it will expand its terror and violence.

Some people still debate whether fish - complex living beings - feel pain, and move the goalposts all the time to never engage with the idea of a fish suffering. Algorithms regurgitating words get more grace and consideration than our fellow animals.

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

"AI for ADHD Brains at Work: New Ways to Support Executive Function
Date & Time: Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 1pm EDT
(12pm Central; 11am Mountain; 10am Pacific)
Find it in your time zone »
Expert: Diann Wingert, MSW
WEBINAR SPONSOR: Inflow
Adults with ADHD are positively bursting with ideas, ambition, or effort. In short supply, often, are executive functioning skills. For decades, the standard advice has been to borrow someone else’s EFs — a body double, an assistant. Now, artificial intelligence (AI) can fill in gaps for a fraction of the cost, at any hour, and without judgment.

Yes, AI is controversial and has its downsides for sure. But with the right prompts and strategy, it has the potential to be life-changing. This webinar will offer a practical, hype-free framework for using AI as an executive function support. Attendees will learn which tasks AI handles well, and which ones it doesn’t. It will also address the questions thoughtful users should be asking about privacy, accuracy, and over-reliance."

"the raw data of a novel" 🙃 The way AI evangelists talk about art is truly alien to me. (From a comment left on an article of mine.)
If you put in the raw data that is needed to write this novel and all the ideas are yours what is wrong with having AI write it? All the foundation was yours. Maybe you're not that great of a writer, but hey you can sure craft a plot and storyline, build characters and design your own world. Yet the problem comes in putting it all together. Isn't that writers use to do before AI was hire GHOST writers to finish a manuscript?

Oh I missed this Once again I’m struck by the vacuous yet arrogant emptiness of these people, they are incurious and uncaring, and the world tells them they are special and wonderful for being like this
To Sam's way of thinking, the case against Shakespeare could be made with basic statistics:
"I could go on and on about the failings of Shakespeare ... but really I shouldn't need to: the Bayesian priors are pretty damning.
About half the people born since 1600 have been born in the past 100 years, but it gets much worse than that. When Shakespeare wrote almost all Europeans were busy farming, and very few people attended university; few people were even literate probably as low as ten million people. By contrast there are now upwards of a billion literate people in the Western sphere. What are the odds that the greatest writer would have been born in 1564? The Bayesian priors aren't very favorable."
(Michael Lewis, "Going Infinite")
