Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.

Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

Leonor Fini and Leonora Carrington, Paris, 1953 📷 Denise Colomb

Leonor Fini (r) and Leonora Carrington (l). Both were famous painters and key figures of the surrealist art movement. The photo was taken in 1952 at Fini's apartment on Rue Payenne in Paris. The image captures a rare meeting between the two friends after they were separated by World War II.

We overestimate how hard the energy transition is because we diagnose it wrong. Electrifying doesn't just swap the fuel, it cuts how much energy you need beause combustion wastes so much as heat. I call it 'Electrofficiency'. More on @auroraenergy.bsky.social pod. youtube.com/watch?v=LaBOIbwqnnE

This 1952 memo from the Pentagon UFO files is superb There is no point preparing for aliens ‘because no one of consequence is going to take this rubbish seriously unless it happens. At that point, our policy will be determined in the traditional manner of grand panic.’ 🤣 www.war.gov/medialink/uf...

There likely is nothing to be done at the moment to prepare for these possibilities (the only body of writing on the subject available in an emergency is science fiction), because no one of consequence is going to take this rubbish seriously unless it happens. At that point, our policy will be determined in the traditional manner of grand panic.

A little historical note on that: colorization was never actually the point. 🧵 I was in post production at Lorimar in the late eighties while the colorization was going on. I had a good friend who was involved in doing the restoration work prior to colorization.
