The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

They tried that in 1970s when Fiji Airways rebranded as Air Pacific with Fiji and about seven other pacific nations all holding shares. But it fell apart as the other nations felt Fiji was too dominant and as it became sexy for newly independent nations to have their own international flag carriers.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.
Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

The BA Concorde livery always struck me as rather Flagship of British Technology and Style! meets Check out My Tail featherF! whereas Air France seemed more "She's beautiful enough! Let's just go moderne minimalist here."

Recently reread Space Merchants, Gladiators At Law and The Syndic and found them all still lively and often prescient satires of corporate/marketing/legal/oligarchical complexes. Enjoyed Heinlein as a kid but Bester, Le Guin, Pohl/Kornbuth and James Tiptree Jr that exploded SF for me back then.

Leonor Fini (r) and Leonora Carrington (l). Both were famous painters and key figures of the surrealist art movement. The photo was taken in 1952 at Fini's apartment on Rue Payenne in Paris. The image captures a rare meeting between the two friends after they were separated by World War II.
