If all you want to do on your day off is play video games, that's a perfect day & let no one shame you for it! So naive when ppl look at others wrong because that's what they did on their free time. Gaming is a form of self-care & someone not understanding that is their loss.

i really wish steam's discovery queue showed me things that were actually relevant to my interests based on the games in my library and how often i play certain genres or something, but all it does is show me whatever is popular and already on the front page, its so useless 😭

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 3: You don't need an MA in Creative Writing to write. You don't need special software to write. You don't need online services to write. All you need is a notepad, a pen and the willingness to take time, make mistakes and learn.

From “The Simpsons” house genius John Swartzwelder, interviewed in The New Yorker by Mike Sacks
It's the only way I know how to write, darn it. But I do have a trick that makes things easier for me. Since writing is very hard and rewriting is comparatively easy and rather fun, I always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible, putting in crap jokes and pattern dialogue-
"Homer, I don't want you to do that."
"Then I won't do it."Then the next day, when I get up, the script's been written.
It's lousy, but it's a script. The hard part is done. It's like a crappy little elf has snuck into my office and badly done all my work for me, and then left with a tip of his crappy hat. All I have to do from that point on is fix it. So I've taken a very hard job, writing, and turned it into an easy one, rewriting, overnight. I advise all writers to do their scripts and other writing this way. And be sure to send me a small royalty every time you do it.

If you're a small indie game dev, don't try to be too professional. Professionalism only matters when you've hit the mainstream. First, you need to appeal to people who mainly play indie games. These people like devs to be human and interesting. You can attract people for you, not just your game.

When I read fiction I have 2 modes: 1. I enjoyed the vibes. Let's not destroy the vibes. 2. What the fuck was that!? With nonfiction there's 3: 1. It was dry but I learned something, so whatever. 2. That was depressing. I don't want to talk about it. 3. I'm never going to stfu about this. #booksky

For those who don’t already: Take time to listen to music and do nothing else. Don’t scroll your phone, don’t text, don’t flip through a book. Just sit there and listen. Maybe even close your eyes. You might be surprised what a beautiful and therapeutic experience it can be.

It’s weird when people shame new readers. When a reader learns about an author they’ve never read before, that’s nothing but a good thing. Or are we all just supposed to download some canon at birth? That would defeat every purpose of reading.
