Been a minute huh? I’ve been working on my first kitbash project! Took a Bachmann new tooling 4-4-0 and fancied it up to be a modernized hob goblin. I plan on priming it up tomorrow for decals and lettering with a final paint scheme.

The mass rebuilding also introduced a larger sand dome, the installation of Automatic Train Control (ATC), and steam heat lines. This brought the heavy mike fleet up to dual service standards, and they were seen both powering freight and passengers until retirement in 1958. (Part 4)

In 1934, the PH&E did mass shopping on the MK-4's, and subsequently re-equipped them with coil type feed water heaters instead of the previous bundle. The coil was a better overall design, with only two coils instead of fifteen bundles. They were easier to wash and service. (Part 3)

However, with about a decade of service under their belts, the MK-4's were getting a bit long in the tooth for the PH&E in terms of cost. The Elesco bundle, while international, had some serious design limitations such as fragile internals and mineral scale. Something needed to change. (Part 2)

A little bit more lore for today: The PH&E was no stranger to modern motive power, having one of the most modern fleets of locomotives in North America. In 1924, they ordered a batch of heavy Mikados, classed MK-4. These workhorses would serve the PH&E until the very end. (Part 1)

So recently I’ve been rewatching some of @interurbanera.bsky.social’s videos and his various “Joy of Kitbashing” videos inspired me! It’s not the best work for a first attempt at model modification, but it’s a start and a leap headfirst into improving my modeling skills!

A shortened LifeLike Gondola with its middle section removed.
I plan on making more of these as time goes on for an entire small yard Idea I’ve had.

A more clear photo of the gondola, I plan on making gravel loads to cover up the less than smoothed inner milliput.
