Shhh go quietly... a little Hedgehog is rustling through your feed. 🥹
A small Hedgehog nestles among a blanket of crisp autumn leaves, peering out with a gentle, curious expression as though happily exploring the woodland floor. Warm golden tones surround its tiny face and spiky coat, creating an irresistibly cosy autumn scene.

I know the cops are (rightly) being criticised but the care home should be able to de-escalate a situation like this with skilled care of someone with dementia/delirium who they already know as one of their residents I'd do them for wasting police time and wonder what kind of training/supervision

why on earth did a care home (doubtless one advertising itself as "dementia friendly/specialist dementia" facility) call the police for 91 year old man with an amputation and delirium who was holding a butter knife? What was he gonna do? Spread Lurpak on the staff? FFS!

✨ It wasn’t until I first saw the Saxon crypt at St Wystan’s, Repton, that I understood John Betjeman’s words: ‘Holy air encased in stone.’ I’ve never felt the past so close, or found such comfort in feeling rooted in a longer story. A real hidden gem, a must see.

A little view that you can no longer see. This glimpse of a medieval window from inside a quadruple Tudor chimney stack was only visible 10 years ago whilst we undertook some flood recovery work. This space is now a much needed cupboard!
We are looking at a corridor made of brick, it leads to a dead end of a limewashed wall and glazed stone mullion window.

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
As we join the great theoretical scientist, he is deep in thought. So still, quiet and focused that he might almost be asleep. But inside that brilliant mind, what new idea is forming? What certainty is being meticulously interrogated? What ingenious theory is ready to change our world forever? (the scientist snores lightly) Ah, it seems he actually is asleep. And that's fine. Science is hard and not every day can be a success. We will come back another time.

“Zionism is racism” is not a policy but a slogan. It compresses a complex history, going back millennia, and a very wide set of beliefs into one narrow meaning. The answer to genocide is not discrimination. We don't fight racism with racism. I’m gutted to see this motion adopted by the Green Party.

One of the issues which became apparent very quickly yesterday was that a number of the people assembled under the "Greens for Palestine" banner had been Corbynite Labour activists in the 2010s. One of their spokespeople was literally the election agent for a Socialist Campaign Group MP in 2019.

It's right and necessary to condemn the heinous crimes of the Israeli state. Too often though people try and defend antisemitism as "anti-Zionism". Personally I believe Greens have massively screwed this one. It'll be taken by too many as an excuse for antisemitism under the cover of "anti-Zionism".

I'm told by a delegate is has passed - 1,022 votes for the motion, 813 against. While the Greens love their direct democracy model, it does mean policy risks being set by the small minority who can be arsed to (and can afford to) go to conference.

Greens for Palestine say their "Zionism is racism" motion has passed at Green conference. This could be a big problem for the party, not least as four of the party's five MPs have spoken out strongly against it, while Zack Polanski has (sort of) endorsed it. Some, not all, Jewish members worried.

The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

The "Zionism is racism" motion, to be debated at the Green Party conference tomorrow, will not advance the Palestinian cause one inch. But, if adopted, it would marginalise and discredit the party. There are powerful ways to confront the genocide. Toxic gesture politics isn't one of them.
