The goal of my work was to expedite pre-clinical testing for a HIV vaccine. Yet the success of this rapid sequential boosting demonstrates just how elastic germinal center biology can be—accepting multiple antigens in the early weeks and later developing new affinities in long-term B cell residents.

Accompanied by a wonderful “News and Views” piece by William O. Hahn and Lawrence Corey: www.nature.com/articles/s41... Thrilled to help advance pre-clinical testing pipelines while eagerly watching the broader HIV vaccine effort move closer to the finish line, many clinical trials now on deck.

Our new paper is out this week in Nature Immunology. This work was preformed at @lji.org, in collaboration with the Irvine and Schief labs at Scripps Research, and guided by my mentor, @profshanecrotty.bsky.social . Grateful to be able to finally share it publicly! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Rapid boosting increases germinal center responses to sequential vaccines - Nature Immunology
The authors explore the potential of changing vaccination schedules combined with ‘germline targeting’ to increase the generation of broadly neutralizing antibodies against HIV. In mice, they find tha...

After 30+ years of HIV vaccine clinical trials, this is the first time that neutralizing antibodies against an HIV clinical isolate has been generated in vaccinated people. * "Tier 2" neutralizing antibodies, induced consistently. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

In our latest vaccine immunology study we tested whether it is possible to simultaneously prime multiple classes of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) against HIV using a combination of germline-targeting (GT) immunogens. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... @scienceimmuno.bsky.social @lji.org

Simultaneous induction of multiple classes of broadly neutralizing antibody precursors by combination germline-targeting immunization in nonhuman primates
Simultaneous immunization with three germline-targeting immunogens primes multiple bnAb lineages in NHPs, advancing multiepitope HIV vaccine strategies.

Happy to share our latest work! This study would not have been possible without the amazing Crotty Lab team, our collaborators at the Scripps CHAVD HIV vaccine consortia, and crucial support from NIH funding. Grateful to be part of this effort!
