JOYCE MESSIER - “Of bodies of water and forest-covered surfaces, clusters of light where the cities lie. You've seen the montage, we all have -- this world is enough,” she concludes. CONCEPTUALIZATION - It *must* be. This is the greatest and kindest arrangement the atoms had in them.

Bad day to be a pedantic ass who is annoyed at Daylight Saving Time. Because I agree with all these takes. But they keep using Savings and I keep cringing.

@jonrosenberg.bsky.social I was trying to find an online reference of some kind to the old Pudding Transfer Protocol from Goats, and Gemini made it weird. Thought you might be amused.

A Google search results page for "pudding transfer protocol goats". The AI Overview reads "Based on the provided search results, there is no evidence of a "pudding transfer protocol" in goats. It appears the query may have been a misunderstanding of
"cud transfer" (also known as rumen transfer or transfaunation) or embryo transfer protocols."

Oh damn, it's a failed Goodhart measure (why is everything a failed Goodhart measure?). People want to use some easily measurable thing as a proxy for the actual reality, but it isn't perfect, so it works sometimes and fails others.

Since I love procgen / high systemic story generator games, I decided to finally pick up Rim World. But I did not like it, which did not make any sense. So I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out why and made a little graph.

Two axis: one goes from player centric to world centric, and the other goes from utility to poetic. Crusader Kings, Dwarf Fortress, The Sims, and Caves of Qud live in the World Centric / Poetic corner, while Rim World lives in the Player Centric / Utility corner.
