A bit late to the party but for the #BirdOfTheDay theme #Grounded , this lovely peaceful Nene I found at Hakalau Reserve on the Big Island. #birds 🌿📷🦉
A Nene (Hawaiian goose) sitting in the grass with its head titled to one side. It has a black head and beak, a white neck with the black skin beneath visible as stripes, and a white chest with grey-brown feathers with white edges. A very pretty goose. :)

15 years ago right about this time of day, the Tohoku-oki earthquake was unleashed, with as much as 100 meters of fault slip documented at the Japan Trench. The resulting tsunami rocked Japan and the world, claiming ~18,000 lives. It was one of only 5 M9 quakes ever recorded. ⚒️

The plums of Kameido.
Cascading pink plum blossoms show you their true chaos. One branch is considerate enough to be in focus, giving you the slightest idea of what is going on. The rest you have to guess. Magenta and white plum blossoms crossing paths across the eaves of Kameido Tenjin, rejoicing that their backdrop is no longer under construction this season. Can you feel the rejoicing? I can. Single pink plum blossoms show on a branch of white ones, against a sort of plum snow bokeh background and a blue sky. Ugly duckling vibes. Did nobody say more bokeh? Single cascading pink plum blossoms show against a backdrop that could be anyone’s guess, but maybe that is Kameido Tenjin (that is Kameido Tenjin, see caption). A very relatable disarray of form, color, and light, am I right?

This is kind of an aside / relevant to Bad Bunny's Americas shout out... but the seven continent model we're taught in the US isn't universal. Some countries teach a six or even five continent model. The six-continent model (which unites North and South America) is common in Latin America

This so perfectly articulates the best thing about this movie: Mary. “It’s a Wonderful Life is, in part, the story of someone becoming, kicking and screaming, against all intentions and desires, a big man. Mary sees the big man in George from the first, because she is a big woman.”

This feels weird to say, but I order kids books for a store and I feel like picture books change me ALL THE TIME? My newest one is this book Truckosaurus coming in March that sounds like it’s gonna be a standard Dino truck mashup, but is full of the most perfect joyful fever dreams?
Illustrations of a dog wearing balloons and safety gear and a spider construction worker, a turtle car? Maybe?A Hippo that is a bus with creatures exiting his mouth including a walking birdhouse. A wind up baby dinosaur walk alongside. A running bear is wearing an aquarium helmet? Does he breathe water? We don’t know. A lion wearing glasses is maybe noodling in the lake in the background.

International travel experience also varies greatly across the nations in the study, and it is strongly correlated with per-capita gross domestic product. In the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom, more than four-in-ten have traveled to 10 or more countries. While about three-in-four Americans have traveled abroad, only 11% have been to 10 or more nations.

In middle-income nations in Africa, Latin America and Asia, majorities have never left their country. However, most of those who have not traveled internationally say they would if they had the opportunity.
