they changed the esrb rating system around 2004-5 i think, they were really trying to hit that T rating at first but once E10+ came out, they scaled down the edgiest parts of the game to hit that rating instead

i will also say the negative talk online seems way overblown, mostly coming down to like one reviewer doing some IGN level shit and really only covering the beginning of the game. not that the game gets to being amazing or anything, but its not a dumpster fire. the fart trail is stupid though.
