I also need to paint the front and back bumpers, rear driver side quarter panel and front driver side fender. The rest of the paint on the car looks good. The original paint is still glossy but the red most likely faded over the years. Won't know how off it is till I spray the other parts.

Not out of the woods yet with this car. The water pump is not sounding too happy since the car was sitting for almost a decade which is expected. Gonna do a full service on it, belts, hoses, thermostat, coolant flush, new brake fluid. Oh and I need tires too. The tires on the car are from 1998. 😬

This thing is RAD!!! 😎 So glad I rescued it.

I'm starting to think I have too many cars. 🤔

I got the plates and title this morning. The Firebird is officially back on the road!

I paid 11 bucks for this steering wheel wrap and it was actually legit good. Came with needle, tread, scissors and a spudger tool. If you have a tired looking steering wheel, it might be worth a shot looking on AliExpress.

I made some kinda blue drink. I don't know. It's got gin and a gummy worm in it. It's like some bullshit you'd get at Applebee's.

Fixed the beat up steering wheel on my Miata. Takes forever to wrap a steering wheel but it's so worth it. Feels so nice and new now. Way cheaper than buying a replacement wheel too.

Seeing Ben Stiller dressed as Munkustrap in Katz's Deli was not on my bingo card for today. Its to promote his Stiller's Soda. Ya know, I'll go buy a can just because he did that. 😹

Ugh the muffler on my VW Bus is like 20 years old. I patched it up real quick before the camping trip last weekend and it blew a hole right through the patch in a different spot of the muffler. Yeah it's time for a new muffler. 🤦

I love cheap Mini Mobile but man, they get real pesky when it's time to renew. Constant reminders and notifications. I know the date. Why am I going to give you my money weeks in advance? I'll pay it. Leave me alone!

Yoooo there is a Christine mod for BeamNG. Oh hell yeah! Of course I have to run her over with a bulldozer. It's mandatory. Man, how badass would it be if there was Christine video game?

Nope! I'm here again and there is nobody. The rescheduled speed dating has been rescheduled again. Dude, fuck this. I'm done. I'm going home and going to get my money back. This is ridiculous.

Ok VW campout is over. Now it's speed dating time finally. Ahhhh! Ironically this is where the NJ bowling meets used to be. I've fursuited here.

Aww man! @kinggourd.bsky.social and I were just watching him in Used Cars the other night.

Getting my VW Bus ready for the aircooled VW campout this weekend. New alternator belt and an oil change. ALSO Sunday night it's the rescheduled speed dating event. So I have to leave from the VW show, get cleaned up and go to speed dating all in one trip. This weekend is going to be crazy.

When I was buying the Firebird last week, I low-balled the seller pretty hard when I discovered the car didn't actually run. It was going to be a bigger job than anticipated so I didn't budge on my offer and left. Later he asked $500 more than my offer and I still didn't budge.

It's been a super busy week on top of working on getting the Firebird running. I only had enough time to put about 15 miles on the car today. Got the engine warm and did an oil change and filter. The oil was pretty nasty and the filter looked like it was 20 years old.

First drive in the Firebird! It's crazy how good this car feels. It feels like a brand new car. Smooth, quiet, not a squeak or rattle. Fire extinguisher with me just in case. Ya never know with stuff that has been sitting for so long.

Wooo! After 9 years of sitting the Firebird runs! Got it running in less than a week. New upper and lower intake gaskets and new injectors. Currently burping the coolant system. Gonna run it with distilled water to flush it out.

Cleaned out the fuel rail and installed the new injectors. The engine is back together now. Tomorrow I have to put the belt on, install the air intake boot, air filter and put coolant in it. Then hope it starts. 🤞

Nice new metal Felpro lower intake gaskets installed in the Firebird. Such a stupid design. The push rods go through the gasket so I had to take all the pushrods out of the engine.

What is really weird to think about is the Firebird is 31 years old yet working on it feels like a regular everyday car. It doesn't feel old. It's not like working on a 70s or 80s car. What is even more crazy is when I bought my VW Bus in 2005, that was 30 years old and that thing felt ancient.

3370

Coopertom @coopertom.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

The new fuel injectors for the Firebird should arrive tomorrow. I was hoping to have the lower intake manifold gaskets installed today but scraping the old gaskets and cleaning all the surfaces is tedious work.

1310

Got the lower intake manifold off the Firebird. The intake gaskets are actually in good shape but they're original. It isn't a matter of if but when are they going to leak. Gotta change them out.

2421

The big question is, was the Firebird parked 9 years ago because of bad fuel injectors or are the fuel injectors bad because it was parked 9 years ago for something else? My biggest fear being that "something else" is a blown head gasket. I won't know until get this car running. 😰

6391

Man just feels like such a gamble with this Firebird. The car looks really good but I dont know the exact reason why its been sitting for 9 years. I need to do the intake gaskets and fuel injectors before I can look for other issues. I really hope the reason it was parked was because of a fuel issue
