I think what rankles here is that second part. Because to my recollection basically no mainstream politician has substantially challenged the Israeli government. Which is why the pressure is building across the political spectrum and leading to these gestures.

The thing about "estrangements" is that often the parents feel that the "incident" blindsides them, comes out of nowhere, while the children protecting themselves by withdrawing from the relationship describe the relationship as toxic and decaying for years and years prior to the rupture.
